When I stepped off a bus in Carteret, New Jersey and entered Dru and Omar’s home, I felt I had crossed into a private universe shaped by love and devotion. They met years ago in a sewing class at fashion school in Los Angeles, seated across from one another, and have been together ever since.

Their world is layered with antique and vintage pieces that echo medieval and Renaissance sensibilities, shrines and images honoring the male physique, alongside garments of their own design. Every object feels intentional, part of a language built slowly over time with care and precision.

Dru spoke about the necessity of slowing down, of absorbing life and allowing creation to unfold deliberately. In a world overwhelmed by conflict, he described the act of making fantastical, dreamlike work as both an act of resilience and self-care.

I am grateful to have stepped inside their world, to witness and capture the magic they have cultivated over the years.

Madness meets magic. Witness the wild and whimsical wasteland world of Mind Over Hatter.

It began with a man and a magic hat and just like that ! a world was born, made from the forgotten and the scorned.

Behind the weirdly and wild wasteland wears of Mind Over Hatter, there’s always been something more that’s mattered… At least to me, because you see, it was never just about the fashion, but more about the world of which it came from, and the story that it could tell. If it had eyes, if it had it ears, if it had desires, if it had fears, what would it say?

Hats have always been symbolic and special. They have a power and personality of their own. A crown of consciousness, you could say.
Whether it’s basic as a cap or classy as a top hat, we have given hats a special place of importance, and in return, they have given us power and a new identity.
So much so that they could take over your soul. Your mind.

Throughout time, and many heads, and many minds, these hats have manifested characters of all kinds. Reaching out for real life. Calling out for a soul of its own… and through madness and magic this was all shown. Through the hats!

Heavy with the hurting and happy hearts of surviving humanity, each having a different sign and ability to not only survive, but thrive in a weird and wondrous wasteland. Each conjured character carries the weight of what it means to be high powered, and yet still human. Compelling to remind ourselves that we are strong and strange, and the human heart is resilient. It’s mighty and magical… and just like that, it ends, and begins with a hat.

Special thanks to everyone who has contributed to building this mad and magical world with us. This has never been just about our artwork, it’s been yours as well. A lot of heads and hearts and care has gone into developing these characters, and this world, that we would one day, would love to see them, be manifested into a mad reality.
