I put my name in the hat for one of the beautiful sketchbooks created by @printedmaterial72 as part of the ‘one of many postcards’ project - and I was lucky enough to be selected! Thank you so much Lesley!

I’ve been working on a lot of collage stuff over the summer - creating colourful complex designs. So it felt good to strip things back and create a design on each page of this sketchbook using limited materials and an achromatic colour palette.

Now each of these pages feels like an invitation - a temptation - to add something else, which I will do in time.

For now I’m just enjoying the simplicity of the book and its contents.

In return for receiving this sketchbook, I made a donation to the @aliveactivities charity in Bristol, who support people with dementia and their carers.

Look out for more giveaways in the @oneofmanycharity initiative.

♥️An absolute joy to REPOST ♥️• @printedmaterial72 Last week my architect chum @rbthompson9 sent me an image of some sponge decorated ceramic tiles from a 1960’s mural by Alan Boyson. He was unknown to me but I dived into that rabbit hole and have come to see him as an artist who deserves to be wider known.
He already has his fans. There is an exhibition currently on called The Marvel of Marple curated by @shipsinthesky63 and @leighvbird . For all things Alan Boyson do follow the links and find out more. He rewards the research believe me.
I was so taken with his symbols and technique that I have tried to replicate the texture in collagraphs with Hammerite and embossed sandpaper. The embossing trials include 4 different grades of sandpaper each with a different effect. I am going to do them again using carborundum paint rather than drawing and cutting with a scalpel.
I have tried Tetra Pak too, also trying to create plates of some of his pieces in Salford at the University of Manchester. Every plate I’ve made is also printed on fabric as I think they’d be great images to base an embroidery or an appliquéd quilt or wall hanging on.
If anyone is a fan of brutalist architecture or mid century design please do a search for Alan Boyson.
I am part of the generation that grew up with art like this on buildings around us. Looking at it now I think he was ahead of his time and I certainly want to keep finding out more about him.
Thank you @rbthompson9 for opening the door to another world. If only I wasn’t completely obsessed with so many ‘other worlds’ already!!

Byddwch yn greadigol! | Get creative!

When was the last time you tried your hand at a new skill? Develop some new techniques and make some fun memories (and friends!) in the process, with one of the Spring-time creative courses at local printmaking studio @poptypress.

As you may have heard, we're busy restoring Temperance Hall to transform it into heritage print studios in the centre of Haverfordwest. All the while we are conducting our important renovations, local printmaker Popty Press is working from a well-polished and peaceful workshop space on North Street and offering wonderful artistic activities to the community as part of their weekly practice.

Getting involved with local creative enterprises helps our town's artistic community, as well as encouraging our mission to make exciting, restored spaces for those working in Haverfordwest. Check out the events and workshops and consider who you know that would love to do some bookbinding, screen-printing, or copper-etching. Visit the link on @poptypress to find out more and reserve a space.

Congratulations to @poptypress on a fabulous pop up exhibition showcasing black and white prints made by members and supporters and foregrounding work made by local people attending evening classes. My glass pieces are screen-printed using vitreous enamels which are then fired in my kiln and are from a new body of work investigating home and untold domestic stories. #glassart #screenprinting #tetrapakprinting Other works in my reel are by @printedmaterial72 and @philippa.sibert
