Nobel Prize Week is underway, and Troy University Honors students are following along! As this year’s Nobel laureates are announced, we’ve been discussing each of the winners in our Honors colloquia; connecting their work to the disciplines, ideas, and global questions our students are exploring. And now we’re especially looking forward to Friday’s Nobel Peace Prize announcement. This semester, our students are studying the Nobel Peace Prize and the broader work of peace through the National Collegiate Honors Council’s Partners in Peace initiative, as Troy University Honors works toward designation as a Partners in Peace institution. Students have also been following the possible Peace Prize contenders and comparing their own favorites with PRIO’s annual shortlist and predictions. Who will it be on Friday? We’ll be watching from Troy! @troyuniversity @nobelprize @nobelpeacecenter @nchchonors @prioresearch

Gaza is one hour from Cyprus. At Cyprus Forum 2026, voices from Israel, Palestine, Syria and Armenia argued that connectivity, not crisis management, is the path to peace.

China's relationship with Afghanistan is deeply embedded in the broader China-Pakistan-Afghanistan geopolitical landscape. While Afghanistan is far less important to China economically than Pakistan, it has significant strategic relevance due to its location, security implications, and potential role in regional connectivity. China has maintained diplomatic engagement with the Taliban since 2021 and, although limited, continued official and private investments in mining, energy and infrastructure. Terrorist attacks and the low intensity war between Pakistan and Afghanistan challenges Chinese investments, influence and non-interference policy in what has become a highly volatile region. Panel: -Kaja Borchgrevink (chair), Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) - Mirwais Wardak, Peace Training and Research Organisation - Katja Mielke, Bonn International Centre for Conflict Studies - Arne Strand, Chr. Michelsen Institute This event is a part of Afghanistan Week 2026. #afghanistanweek #afghanistanweek2026 #afghanistanuka #afghanistanuka2026 Read more, link in bio.

⛑️ How does restricted access to conflict zones reshape humanitarian action, journalism, research, and international accountability? 📍 Reid Hall, 4 rue de Chevreuse, Paris 75006 ℹ️ Free and open to all 📆 September 29 at 7 p.m. Frontlines is a new event co-organized by the Columbia Global Paris Center, the Columbia Global Center Amman, the Fondation Croix-Rouge française, and Sciences Po, bringing together perspectives from three sectors working at the frontlines of humanitarian crises and conflicts: journalism, humanitarian action, and field research. Across today's humanitarian crises, access to conflict zones is increasingly restricted or entirely denied. In places such as Gaza and Sudan, blockades, insecurity, and political constraints have profoundly transformed the work of humanitarian organizations, journalists, and researchers, while placing ever greater responsibility on local actors who are often the only ones able to respond, document events, and bear witness. This public conference brings together leading humanitarian practitioners, journalists, and scholars to examine how restricted access is reshaping the production of knowledge, humanitarian response, and international accountability. Through a series of conversations drawing on experiences from Gaza, Sudan, Syria, and other conflict settings, speakers will explore the consequences of denied access for affected populations, the evolving relationship between international and local responders, and the legal and ethical challenges raised by today's conflicts. 🔗 Register at the link in bio. 💻 This event will also be livestreamed.

In a world of genocide, war, polarisation, dehumanisation, social injustice and environmental crises. A world where too many leaders focus on their own egos. Where far-right parties gain ground. Where political voices are silenced, people are denied work because they speak against war and for peace, and hateful words spread across the internet. Where women are oppressed by political and religious systems. Where girls are denied education. Where children are forced to experience horrors no child should ever have to witness. Where healthcare systems fail those who are already most vulnerable. The list seems to grow longer every day. And then I look at these three little monkeys. They are an heirloom in our family, passed down from the children’s great-grandmother. One covers its ears. One covers its eyes. One covers its mouth. Hear no evil. See no evil. Speak no evil. But perhaps today, they should remind us of the opposite. Do not be silent. Do not look away. Do not stop listening. Do not stop thinking. Do not stop protesting. Do not stop speaking for peace and justice. Silence does not make suffering disappear. Looking away does not make injustice disappear. There are moments in history when silence becomes a choice. I choose not to be silent. Never. @nobelpeacecenter @prioresearch #freedomofexpression

To my Norwegian-speaking followers here! I really want to recommend Palestinapodden, hosted by Rania and Nader. @palestinapodden.norge @raniairaki @nader.babba They have been making this podcast since 2024, with countless episodes in both Norwegian ((note; and English!!!) covering Palestine, history, politics, culture and the realities Palestinians are facing. I especially want to recommend their latest episode with Hilde Henriksen Waage. I listened to it yesterday, and it really made an impression on me. @prioresearch Waage is a professor of history at the University of Oslo and one of Norway’s leading experts on the Oslo process and Norwegian peace diplomacy. In this episode, she talks about her decades of research into the Oslo Accords, Norway’s role in the process, secrecy and power struggles surrounding the negotiations, and the documents that were hidden away for years. She also discusses what actually happened behind the scenes—and what the Oslo process tells us about the relationship between Norway, Israel and Palestine. It is a fascinating, uncomfortable and deeply important conversation. It made me think a lot about how the story of the Oslo Accords has been told—and what has been left out. So, if you understand Norwegian: go listen. I highly recommend this episode, and I highly recommend Palestinapodden in general. Thank you, Rania and Nader, for keeping this conversation going. ❤️🇵🇸 Listen to Palestinapodden!
