Day 2 of ‘Celebrating Oscar’ in the Calgary Schools for @honens with @priscillebuck and @k.goerzen Thank you @stthomasmore_ccsd for welcoming us so warmly into your school. We had an amazing day bringing the arts to life through the lens of Dr. Peterson even with a power outage in the middle of the day! What an incredible school visit this was.

Thank you @katrinaolson for an amazing evening.

Everytime I see people’s artwork, I’m always amazed and i always wonder how do people even discover they have this kind of talent. And in a room full of creatives I ran into 2 other local artists @sydtheartiste @furrera.j and I asked them how they discovered their talent and the answer.. YOU JUST START and then you discover you have a passion for it.

And it’s true, I guess that’s truly how we all discover what we are passionate about and when you are passionate you PRACTICE until your next piece is better than the last.

Cheers to a life full of creativity🥂

In the words of Priscille Bukasa ‘It is the highest privilege to be a teaching artist because we get to tap into student’s imaginations, and it allows us to shape the future! What a fantastic day today was.

Day 1 of ‘Oscar’ in the schools for Honens supported by the The Calgary Foundation, Irene and Walt DeBoni, Andrea Brussa and Buckingham Palace. An extra special shoutout to Chris Herard and Kelsey Kathleen who worked with Honens to book all the schools. You two are AMAZING!!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Meet the person leading Workshop Three. 🎤

Priscille Bukasa is a Calgary-based spoken word artist, writer, and teaching artist with over 15 years of performance experience and current Festival Coordinator for Arts ReimaginED. She’s performed at major Calgary festivals and conferences, and in 2025 co-wrote and narrated a Honens-commissioned production at the Jack Singer Concert Hall.

Which is the whole reason this workshop exists in the form it does. Spoken word lives exactly where those practices meet — knowing how to write from lived experience, and knowing how to put breath, rhythm, and body behind it so a room actually feels it.

Friday the 28th she’s leading the Poetry Workshop on the craft of spoken word: writing exercises, conversation, performance, and play, uncovering the stories hidden in ordinary moments.
Come as you are — no experience needed, and nothing to bring but your voice.
