Earlier this month, three paintings very dear to me were selected as finalists for the @prismaartprize in Rome. It felt really validating to have them included amongst some truly outstanding work on their website. A big thank you to the jurors for including them.

An old design, I like the concept of but would do it differently now but finished it with shading and colour ✏️🎨👍😁
In Japanese tattooing (Irezumi), the combination of a koi and a snake represents a dramatic scene of perseverance, transformation, and the struggle against fate. It balances the koi’s resilience in overcoming adversity with the snake’s representation of protection, rebirth, and guardianship.

• @prismaartprize HONORABLE MENTION - Prisma Art Prize 18th Edition
Arthur Laidlaw with Cut Glass

Gouache, acrylic, and oil on linen, 140 × 170 cm

Bodies gather in a tight interior, faces slipping out of focus, as if identity were something unstable, caught in reflections, interruptions, and the noise of the room.

Color cuts through the composition like sharp light on glass: vivid, messy, alive. The ordinary becomes charged, and the intimacy turns slightly uncanny.

Congratulations to Arthur Laidlaw for this Honorable Mention.

A heartfelt thank you to our Jury for the time, care, and attention dedicated to this edition — the artistic director @marcocrispano , the curator @domenico_de_chirico and the jurors @giacomoxguidi @pallavicini_collezione isorropiahomegallery @andreavittoriag @ciprian__muresan @natascia_natalie_nat @silentartexplorer @ego_projects @alberto.bellotto , Anselm Jappe, @an_italian_art_collector @the_dummys_tales

• @prismaartprize HONORABLE MENTION - Prisma Art Prize 18th Edition
Sebastian Haas with “afterwards, no excuses”

Oil, spray paint on reverse glass (framed), 30 × 40 cm

A room appears like a fragment pulled from a surveillance feed or a half-remembered scene - furniture, shadows, and hard edges suspended in cold light. The reverse-glass surface adds a strange distance: everything feels sealed behind a barrier, like evidence, like aftermath. Quiet, tense, and uncompromising.

Congratulations to Sebastian Haas for this Honorable Mention.
