I can’t believe it’s already been 2 weeks since the opening of HEX at the Mississippi Institute for the Arts! I am so grateful that these two powerhouse visionary women are running things around here - Nancy Maria Balach (@prof.balach ) as Director of the Institute and Theresa Starkey as Associate Director of the Sarah Isom Center for Women and Gender Studies and organizer of Sarahfest. I am also thankful for my supportive students and colleagues, the Mississippi art community - as well as Dean Lee Cohen of the College of Liberal Arts for dropping by and supporting the arts on campus! And thank you to @srichattopadhyay for documenting the event!

HEX is up for two more weeks with regular viewing M-F 12-1pm and 4-5:30pm if you missed the opening!

This work was funded in part by the Mississippi Institute for the Arts and an Isom Fellowship.

I couldn’t help but smile all day. I’m so grateful for everyone who supported me in ways they know and don’t know. So many people have told me, in different ways, that I’ve come out of my shell, and I honestly think that has been my biggest achievement while attending University of Mississippi.

I’ve always wanted to perform and share myself with others, but I could never find the right time or the right words. This school and the people I met here pushed me in ways I never thought possible and helped me grow into someone more confident in myself and my voice.

Somewhere between choir rehearsals, songwriting sessions, performances, late nights, and conversations with people who believed in me, I started becoming the version of myself I always wanted to be. Ole Miss gave me more than a degree. It gave me the confidence to take up space, create freely, and trust myself, and I’ll always be thankful for that.

Hotty Toddy!🤍
