Here we go, open invitation to our Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander youth 15-24 years young to Mixtapes & Meriendas!
On Sunday, 8/16/26, we kick off our next round of mental health meriendas and community care at @friendsoffriends.sd from 11:00AM to 2:00PM.

We ask our youth 15-24 years young to share a song that uplifts you, helps carry you through rough periods. Music is an example of one way to stabilize your nervous system and help cope in quick times. Scan the QR code on the flyer or submit at https://bit.ly/mixtapemerienda (link in our bio)

DJ @maeormaenot will curate and play your songs at our casual gathering while you meet our therapists, counselors, and educators, and enjoy merienda (snacks). See you there! Thank you to the @sandiegofoundation Lotus Fund for helping make this possible.

The California Commission on Asian & Pacific Islander American Affairs is proud to announce the reappointment of our Executive Committee for 2025–2026. During our Full Commission Meeting, Commissioners unanimously re-elected:

• Jason Paguio — Commission Chair
• Kirin Macapugay — Commission Vice Chair
• Lance Toma — Secretary

Their continued leadership reflects CAPIAA’s commitment to elevating AANHPI voices, strengthening statewide partnerships, and advancing policies that deliver meaningful impact for communities across California.

Over the past year, this Executive Committee has guided CAPIAA through major milestones, including statewide community listening sessions, strengthened partnerships with nonprofit and grassroots organizations, hosting the AAPI Economic Policy Summit, expanding language advocacy, and leading convenings focused on economic opportunity and belonging.

Their reappointment ensures a continued focus on equity, representation, and community-centered policymaking as we move into another important year of work.

Please join us in congratulating Chair Paguio, Vice Chair Macapugay, and Secretary Toma on their re-election and in honoring their ongoing service to California’s AANHPI communities.😃

✨ Holiday Sneak Peek! ✨
We’re getting everything ready for tonight’s Holiday Activity/Event for the children and parents of Camp Hope Pathways — and we couldn’t be more excited to share a little preview!
🎁💙✨

Last year, we were able to gift @nike shoes to every child in the program, and this year we’re keeping the tradition alive with @adidas shoes for all—with an added gift for parents and guardians from @target👟✨ Who knows… maybe one day one of these amazing brands will want to partner with us to keep the impact growing! 🙌

A huge thank-you to our incredible community advocates, donors, and sponsors who make moments like this possible. Your generosity truly strengthens families.

We are also deeply grateful for the unwavering support of the Team Only Stronger Board of Directors and our partners at @ospsandiegocounty 💪 Together, we are building safer, stronger futures. 💛🎁🎄

The past couple of months have been a turning point for GERM, thanks to your contributions to our Seed&Spark campaign. Your support allowed our team to film in Temecula, Daly City, Long Beach, and Orange County—documenting overdue conversations within the Angeles family and speaking with community figures who survived what Jerem couldn’t.

We’re aiming to wrap production early next year and move into post. To get there, we’re still seeking funding and investors to help carry us through the finish line. If you feel moved to support the project further, donations remain open through our fiscal sponsor, Film Independent. 🔗 LINK IN BIO

Thank you to everyone who showed love and support. Your belief in this film is what keeps us moving!

Earlier this month at SDCCD’s Town Hall: Culture of Belonging, Mesa was live and present representing our Minority Serving Institution (MSI) Grants — the Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI) and Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) programs. AANAPISI Director Leland Simpliciano and HSI Director Toni Parsons shared best practices and highlighted the impact these grants are making in advancing student success and belonging on our campus!

The California Commission on Asian and Pacific Islander American Affairs (CAPIAA) was thrilled to bring together policymakers, entrepreneurs, and community leaders under one roof for the inaugural AAPI Economic Policy Summit, held on October 10, 2025, in San Diego. Under the theme “California Grown, Globally Known,” the summit celebrated how AAPI communities continue to drive innovation, expand global trade, and shape California’s economic future through collaboration and leadership.

Reflecting on the event, CAPIAA Executive Director Khydeeja Alam shared, “As we invest in the AAPI community, we are investing in an economy that works for all Californians,” underscoring CAPIAA’s commitment to fostering meaningful dialogue and advancing policies that create lasting impact across the state.

Throughout the day, CAPIAA Commissioners led discussions on key topics including AI for good, small business resilience, Pacific partnerships, and California’s global trade strategy, highlighting how AAPI innovation continues to strengthen the state’s economic and cultural leadership both locally and globally.

“California’s strength lies in how we grow together,” said CAPIAA Chair Jason Paguio. “Our AAPI communities are driving innovation and shaping the global story of California, from small businesses to cutting-edge technology.”

With more than 170 participants, the summit marked a milestone in CAPIAA’s mission to bridge the gap between California’s diverse AAPI communities and state leadership, turning shared experiences into actionable policy that creates opportunity for generations to come.
