THE PRICE OF BEING GREAT

At training, I often see players finish a drill and say, “I’m done.”

And my response is always the same: KEEP GOING.

Greatness requires repetition. And repetition can become boring.

But that’s part of the process.

You repeat the same movement over and over again until your technique improves, your body understands the movement, and it becomes second nature.

You don’t stop because you’ve done it before. You keep going because you want to master it.

Everybody wants to be great, but not everybody is willing to embrace the part of the process that isn’t exciting.

The same drills. The same movements. The same attention to detail.

Over and over again.

The goal is to train until you no longer have to think about the movement. Your body knows it because you’ve put in the work.

Don’t just count your repetitions. Make your repetitions count.

That’s the price of being great.

SIMPLICITY. 🏀

Peace over chaos.
Quality over quantity.
Purpose over distraction.
Consistency over complexity.
Being present instead of chasing more.

Apply the same principles to your craft.

Understand angles and reads.
Master spacing and decision-making.
Know when to attack, when to move it, and when to create for others.

You don’t need to do more. You need to understand the game better.

Less wasted movement. Better decisions. More purpose.

Master the details, trust your preparation, and let the game slow down.

THE HOUSE YOU BUILD 🏠

There was once a carpenter who had spent years building houses for a construction company. As he approached retirement, his boss asked him to build one last house.

Knowing it was his final job, the carpenter stopped giving his best. He rushed through the work, cut corners, and didn’t pay attention to the details. He just wanted to get it over with.

When the house was finished, his boss called him into the office and gave him a surprise.

The keys to the house he had just built.

It was his retirement gift.

The carpenter was devastated. If he had known he was building his own house, he would have given it his very best.

But by then, the work was done.

THE MORAL?

Every day, you are building something. Your habits, your decisions, your discipline, and the effort you put into your work are shaping the person you will become.

And this applies directly to basketball.

When you step into the gym, take your work seriously. Don’t go through the motions. Don’t take shortcuts because the coach isn’t watching. Don’t shoot carelessly just to say you got your shots up. Don’t skip the details because you’re tired or because nobody is holding you accountable.

Every repetition is a brick.

Every workout is part of the foundation.

Every decision you make is helping build the player you will become.

You might think you’re just getting through another practice, but you are building the player who will be asked to perform when the game is on the line.

Don’t wait until game day to wish you had worked harder in practice. Don’t wait until your opportunity comes to wish you had prepared better.

Take your work seriously. Give your best when nobody is watching. Respect the process, master the details, and build good habits now.

Because one day, you’ll be living with the results of the work you’re putting in today.

Build the player you want to become. One rep at a time

Fear lives in the future.

It lives in the things that haven’t happened, the outcomes we cannot control, and the stories we create in our minds about how things might go wrong.

We spend so much of our lives suffering over possibilities that may never become reality. We let tomorrow steal the peace we could have today.

But the truth is, you cannot control every outcome. You cannot predict every turn. And you cannot grow into the person you’re meant to become while constantly trying to protect yourself from what might happen.

The future is uncertain. That’s life.

Stop letting the fear of what could happen keep you from experiencing what is happening. Face what’s in front of you. Trust yourself enough to handle what comes. And understand that even if things don’t go the way you hoped, you will still have the opportunity to learn, adapt, and keep moving forward.

You don’t need certainty to take the next step. You need courage.

Fear is in the future. Life is happening now. Be here.

If I work on my body, it will react better to what my mind tells it to do

Hunnid problems

We came up from the cold
Little hearts, big foes
But we carry, carry
A light in our souls
We came up from the best

Just work

🏀 DECEPTION. REACTION. COMMUNICATION.

Both players hold a pinnie and approach the tagger. The tagger must read the situation and decide who will keep the pinnie and attempt to run through either safe zone.

✅ Make it through without getting tagged = 1 point.

🎯 The tagger’s goal is to tag 5 players before their turn ends.

The challenge? The two attacking players must develop a strategy to communicate who will run with the pinnie without making it obvious to the tagger.

What are we developing?

* Deception and reading body language
* Using the eyes to mislead the opponent
* Footwork and reaction time
* Communication and coordination
* Warming up the body through movement

Want to make it harder? Progress the game:

1. Walk backwards.
2. Add a basketball for the attacking players.
3. Give the tagger a basketball.
4. Everyone dribbles a basketball.

🔥 From kids to professional players, this game can challenge everyone. Adapt the difficulty to the level of your players.

Give it a try and let me know how it goes!

Off-hand. Active feet. Sharp angles.

1-on-1 with no layups allowed. Creating separation, attacking angles, and finding ways to score under pressure.

Progress is built through intentional reps.
