Live bait for spotties

We found a massive school of smelt and decided to fill up a old spinnerbait box with water to keep them alive. Got about 10 of them in there and went and fished the grass. It’s always fun trying something random and catching fish.

Rod: @irodcoastal JC All Spin

Reel: spheros 3000

Line: 30 lb braid to 15 lb @promarahiusa GT4 fluorocarbon

Bait: Carolina rig with a live smelt

Fishing in 2026 has been incredible! The lobster action is keeping that same pace! Triple limits in 1.5 sets (21 California Spiny Lobster)! We sorted through about 120 lobsters & threw back multiple keepers once we filled our limit and started putting gear away.

@performance_tackle Oil with frozen mackerel brought them in!

Such an incredible Salmon season it has been ⚓️

Got the opportunity to fish with an old high school friend Paul Berry. It was so great to meet parts of his family and spend the day on the water. So grateful for my small hometown of Dixon.

@phifethedreamer is a menace out on the lobster grounds with his PFD from @boatoutfitters! Even the world's best lobster dog is about safety on the water and he ain't no little bitch!

Watch him effortlessly pull even the 24lb @promarahiusa hoops with ease 🤣

Which puller are you going with? PHIFE or the @lonestarmarineusa Haulmaster 1500?!

Another successful introduction to such a unique fishery! These 3 beasts decided to hand pull every one of these hoopnets to the tune of limits for 3! I appreciated it because that's what we had done for decades! It makes you feel like you earn every one of these delicious California Spiny Lobsters!

An epic Saturday evening with stellar weather, great energy and a lot of fun had by us all. I hope you are all out enjoying yourselves however you choose to!
