The Mayor’s celebration of “A Different World” continued during the Teen Summit Fall Break activation. Over 100 gathered to screen the show, hear from the show’s Costume Designer @provifulp and discuss the importance of speaking your dreams out loud.

The offices of @atlyearoftheyouth @atlantaoca @atlfilment and @atlparksandrec came together to support Atlanta’s @atlteenleadersacademy for a full day celebrating HBCU culture.

There’s room for the next generation of storytellers, creatives and visionaries in film and television. 🎬✨

At the A Different World Teen Summit, costume designer Provi Fulp encourages young people to explore the opportunities available through HBCUs and pursue careers in the entertainment industry.

From behind the scenes to center stage, representation matters, and Atlanta is helping the next generation see what’s possible.

You can’t tell us Hillman’s not a real place ♥️📝 It’s been a masterclass to see the cast, crew and creative team of #ADifferentWorld transform Cinespace Atlanta into the halls of the most storied on-screen HBCU.

Day in and day out, we saw the heart, hustle, authenticity and intentionality that went into reviving this iconic series. It’s no wonder it’s connected so deeply with a new generation.

Congratulations to everyone involved in making the series a success. We can’t wait for class to be back in session for Season 2!

You gave us the Cultural Edge we needed to Bring a Movement to LIFE. And you lent us your credible life experiences to help us create an alluring vision for what Atlanta Climate Week will be for years to come.

And for that I’m grateful.

Thank you for seeing my vision. Thank you for your support.

I’m beyond grateful, and so proud of this moment of evolution.

Did you peep the dazzle on A Different World?! 👯🏽‍♀️✨ It’s all the pretty browns for moi 🤎

Skin-tone matching was my #1 priority in 2011 when I started @dbleudazzled. None of the performance hosiery brands (who’ve been around 100+ years) had a color that matched me and didn’t make me look ashy. So I made my own using coffee and tea concoctions, and eventually found a professional dyer.

I love fashion, but I am a dancer’s designer. To see my crystal creations on a reboot of a TV show I grew up watching, is already full circle enough, but to see them worn by dancers of all skin-tones, blending so perfectly, that’s legacy. 🫶🏾✨

Thank you @provifulp + the ADW costume team for the opportunity to shine.💎

The new A Different World didn’t just return with a Black cast and a familiar campus.

HBCU students and graduates worked across the production, Black designers dressed the characters, Black-owned businesses appeared on screen, and creatives connected to the original series came back to help shape the next generation.

That matters because representation isn’t only about who we see when the camera turns on.

It’s also about who gets hired, who gets experience, whose businesses get exposure and who gets to help build the world in the first place.
