AUTUMN’S DANCE - Things that have been inspiring me over the last few weeks, as we gently swirl into the cosy month of Autumn.

We have been researching for many new exciting projects, whilst adding final touches to others and for me I have began to plot some new designs in my own home including a new bedroom for my daughter that will be very much inspired by Chloe Sevigny’s bedroom that has a beautiful and wild smothering of wallpaper.

From painted beams, oversized mirrors, Welsh blankets as tablecloths, soups and toasties for lunch, a night watching up and coming prima ballerina @violabella_ to tapestries and watching the leaves turn golden... there's many things to look forward to and be inspired by 💛

A weekend at Derek Jarman’s cottage with the thoughtful eye of @j.bruce.garden (and Noni and Frida who have a decent chunk of my heart tbh)

I don’t have anything clever to say which is why I hardly ever post anything and this is nearly a year late. But what I will say is how deeply touched I was by this weekend which historically is always a bad one for me on the calendar, and I usually uncharacteristically wish time away on those days.

I also have always loved sticking random stones and sticks in odd places.
I say that tongue in cheek of course.
Because these little moments and tiny additions around the garden are what seems to keep the garden totally alive. These micro arts and interventions. I can talk about the plants but for me it is how Derek and now Jonny bring parts of the landscape into the garden, and the combination of that object with the striking soul of the garden seem to create a beating heart. It includes and wraps around the visitor so beautifully, allowing you to bleed into the stones and structures around you, which is hard to imagine in a landscape that could easily feel slightly bleak.

Inside, Derek’s book is moved to the same date as the current in the calendar, which connects the past and present in a way that brings goosebumps to you. I can’t put into words what it’s like hearing someone speak of the political landscape so many years ago when it could just as easily been today. It almost makes you want to pull him forward, or dive right back to him, because thank fuck someone seems to understand.

The cottage is a beautiful place and I can feel the soul just looking at the photos. My opinion as a gardener doesn’t mean much - although, of course it is stunning - but I can talk about emotion, and this place has it all.

Jonny it feels weird talking about you so I’ll talk to you - you have since become a friend, which I am so grateful for, but I also have an immense respect for how you tend to this space. You keep Derek and Keith at the forefront, while bringing yourself too. I think this must be so difficult, and in my humble eyes you are doing it perfectly.

With love.

Good times with good friends soaking up the southern sun over the last week ☀️ hip shaking at the last Hipsville, dog spotting, baby cuddles, vintage shopping and hugging loved ones. These are a few of my favourite things 💘
