If you’ll be at the CEG Syndemic Summit in Huntington this week, make sure to come by breakout room 2 on Wednesday at 3:15 for the FLHRC Director of Programs’ presentation on Compassionate Overdose Response. This is an incredibly important topic that is not talked about enough, so we highly encourage all attendees to make sure this one’s on your list! There are many seemingly small details that can make a big difference in overdose response that folks might not even think to address, & it’s up to us as caregivers & harm reductionists to show up with the facts. Surviving an overdose doesn’t have to be a painful, traumatic experience. People deserve compassionate care, no matter what the ailment is.

The War on Drugs destroys lives every day. The work we do is urgent, and there is always another fight, another crisis, another thing that needs to be done right now. It can be incredibly difficult for activists to give ourselves permission to stop — to rest, laugh, eat together, play, be ridiculous, spend time in nature, and to simply be.

But movements need people who can stay in the struggle for the long haul. Rest and joy aren’t distractions from the work. Taking care of ourselves and each other is part of how we sustain it.

This weekend, I had the joy of joining an SSDP Retreat, hosted by our incredible Pittsburgh Community Chapter, that brought SSDPers from across the country together in Pennsylvania.

I am constantly blown away by the intelligence, compassion, courage, creativity, and enormous hearts of SSDPers. Getting to spend a few days together outside of meetings, campaigns, deadlines, and Zoom screens reminded me just how blessed I am to work alongside these people.

We fight hard because we believe another world is possible. And sometimes, we need to make a little space to actually live in that world together.

The struggle is long. None of us can do it alone. But, together, I truly believe we can finally END the global War on Drugs. We’re already well on our way!

I love my SSDP family so damn much. 🩵

Activism can cause burn out, and that’s why at @ssdpofficial we gave ourselves permission to unwind together in the woods. No agenda. No expectations. Just togetherness.

My heart is so full to have had this time together in the PA forest. 🌳 We are so grateful for our SSDP fam that took planes, trains, & long drives to road trip with us!

I would love to see this become an annual tradition. I’m feeling revived and even more excited to dive into drug policy reform after having this time with my team.

I sincerely value in-person gatherings where we have deep discussions, laugh (a lot!), get vulnerable, and dream together.

Back in town from a very quick, but productive Miami trip representing the board for Florida Harm Reduction Collective for the @inhsu_global Hep C Intervention Symposium. INHSU put on a wonderful, interactive event and were great hosts. I am so thankful to be apart of the FHRC, such an awesome team.

Cannabis Unity Week brought 44 advocacy organizations, patients, researchers, students, and leaders from across the country to push for meaningful cannabis reform.

It was an honor to speak at the press conference with Representatives Dina Titus (D-NV) and Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Co-Chairs of the Congressional Cannabis Caucus, along with Representative Steve Cohen (D-TN). The event featured an incredible lineup of speakers from Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP), Latino Cannabis Alliance, NORML, DPA, and directly impacted individuals, including survivors of extreme cannabis sentences highlighted through the Stolen Time initiative.

Special thanks to @ssdpofficial and Executive Director Kat Murti for helping build such a diverse coalition united around justice, opportunity, and evidence-based cannabis policy.

This year's Cannabis Unity Week truly showed the strength of bipartisan coalition building. Led by @ssdpofficial the Cannabis Unity Coalition showed up and went to every office in Congress calling for decriminalizing cannabis, release of cannabis prisoners, and record expungement.

I had the opportunity to join Marijuana Justice Coalition meetings with representatives' offices to remind them why the recent rescheduling EO isn't enough and we still need their support to push for full cannabis decriminalization.

Thank you to everyone who put all their time and energy into this week. I am constantly inspired by the advocates who fight for cannabis reform day in and day out. No one is free until we are all free! #releaseallcannabisprisoners

Some of the most meaningful moments come from being surrounded by people who genuinely care about each other and the work they’re doing.

This year’s Cannabis Unity Week was an experience I’ll never forget. Spending the week on Capitol Hill alongside so many passionate advocates was a reminder that real change is driven by the people who don’t stop showing up for it.

Experiences like this are a small part of why I’m so grateful for @ssdpofficial This organization has become family to me. It’s given me opportunities I never could’ve imagined and connected me with some of the most driven and genuine people I’ve ever met.

A HUGE thank you to everyone who put so much time and energy into planning this week and making it happen. It’s a privilege to grow and work alongside all of you 💚
