Since April 2023, LK and a team of three colleagues diligently worked on a brand identity design project for the City of Vancouver, Washington. Situated on the southern edge of Washington state, Vancouver sits on the Columbia River, opposite Portland, Oregon. It is a city focused on growth, with a vibrant waterfront featuring new dining and residential options. Vancouver is committed to equity, stewardship, and resilience. We won this project through a national RFP process last spring and, after LK met with city officials, we eagerly started designing the visuals. The main requests were for a water-related icon, super legible typography, a color palette inspired by the Pacific Northwest, and comprehensive brand guidelines. We are thrilled with the outcome and extend our gratitude to everyone at the City of Vancouver who participated in this process, particularly the Communications team. On to the next city! Hello! It's been a while since I last introduced myself - I'm LK Weiss (she/her), the founder, creative director and sole employee of Portland Design Co.
Located in picturesque Yarmouth, Maine, Portland Design Co is a small but powerful design firm. Over the last decade, I’ve built a foundation based on the collaboration of independent designers, which sets us apart from larger agencies. When I say "we" or "our," I'm referring to the team of talented designers I've carefully assembled over the past twelve years.
At Portland Design Co, we have a unique approach that values simplicity, functionality, and accessibility. I believe that the best design is less design, and this philosophy guides everything we do.
Having worked with a wide range of clients, from local businesses to national corporations and government sectors, we have gained valuable experience in various industries. This allows us to provide personalized solutions that bring our clients' visions to life with award-winning results.
With my dedication to independent design, a passion for simplicity and reason, and my team’s commitment to delivering outstanding results, Portland Design Co is the design studio you can trust for all your creative needs. Swipe to meet and follow the folks I’m so grateful and lucky to work with, and who ultimately hold this collaborative atmosphere.
Thank you for your support, and we look forward to working with you soon! 📸First and second photos by @taylorgonz #maine #design #womanowned #designers #branding #branddesign #logodesign #identitydesign #municipaldesign #citylogos #citydesign #lkweiss #portlanddesignco

Last week, Portland Design Co’s intern @radicalemprints and owner LK attended @mecaart annual portfolio review, where we chatted with junior and senior design, illustration and photography students about their work and studies. It’s always SO inspiring to see what these young minds are creating, where their passions lay, and how they want to change the world- visually and as a whole. They give us hope and inspire us to listen more and continue to work hard! Well done, everyone!
