Introducing Sung Ho Choi @pubrivate, an artist featured in the AKAA Archive. Sung Ho Choi’s practice explores the complexities of bicultural identity, shaped by his experience of emigrating from Korea to the United States. His work reflects on the condition of being “the other,” examining the tensions, contrasts, and layered realities of existing as a minority within a dominant culture. Working across themes and mediums, Choi investigates how cultural encounters—at times conflicting, destructive, and healing—generate patterns that echo natural cycles and energetic systems. Through his process, Choi approaches art-making as a form of inquiry: collecting and translating these patterns into visual and conceptual systems of meaning. His work seeks moments of transformation within these dynamics, drawing on an almost alchemical sensibility to reveal connections between cultural experience and broader universal structures. Ultimately, Choi’s artistic practice centers on the question of how to articulate contrasting identities within an increasingly multicultural society, and how such experiences might be understood in universal terms. What happens to exhibitions when artists are the curators? When artists curate, they tend to propose different ideas about what an exhibition is for and what it can do. A closer look at histories of artist-curated exhibitions could bring significant insights to the field. Everything at GPS is about artists supporting other artists—and so every year, we convene a two-day conference about artist-curated exhibitions. This second annual conference was developed through a graduate course at CCS Bard led by Anthony Huberman and was organized by Hayoung Chung (@hayoungchung), Do Tuong Linh (@dotuonglinh,) Audrey Min (@groandidion), Andrew Suggs (@andrew.all.of.the.time), and Javier Villanueva. Fashion Meets Art: 2025 SS New York Fashion Week VIP Afterparty at Gallery Chang New York, NY – The 2025 New York Fashion Week S/S VIP Afterparty was held at Gallery Chang (150 West 55th Street, Midtown Manhattan), reaffirming the gallery’s reputation as a premier cultural and artistic venue. Following its successful hosting of last year’s F/W afterparty, the gallery once again served as the backdrop for this exclusive event, solidifying its presence at the intersection of fashion and fine art. Gallery Chang presented a New Year group exhibition featuring works by five distinguished Korean artists: Cho Yong-Ik, Kim In-Ok, Ahn Sung-Min, Choi Sung-Ho, and Kim Ho-Bong. Their works provided a compelling artistic experience, seamlessly blending with the evening’s celebration. The afterparty, hosted by the globally acclaimed jewelry brand Alex Soldier, attracted prominent figures from the fashion industry, celebrities, and professional athletes. This high-profile gathering not only celebrated the synergy of fashion and art but also introduced contemporary Korean artists to a broader international audience, including key influencers in the U.S. mainstream and luxury markets. With its continued commitment to cultural exchange and artistic innovation, Gallery Chang plans to expand its collaborations with global brands and artists, further cementing its role as a key player in New York’s dynamic art and fashion scene. #alexsoldier #gallerychang #newyorkfashionweek #nyfw
