7 DAYS POST ACL RECONSTRUCTION! 🦵💪

Ever wondered what a rehab appointment looks like just one week after ACL surgery? 👀

Here’s a little insight into what we’re working on during the early stages of recovery!

At this stage, it’s all about getting the foundations right and making sure we’re progressing safely and effectively.

✅ Exercise Technique & Progression – Reviewing prescribed exercises, ensuring they’re being performed correctly, understanding their purpose and progressing where appropriate.

✅ Swelling Management – Utilising our Pulsio compression boots as part of our recovery approach to support swelling management and comfort alongside other early rehabilitation strategies.

✅ Gait Re-education – Assessing walking patterns, encouraging appropriate weight-bearing in line with surgical guidance and preventing compensatory habits from developing.

The first few weeks following ACL reconstruction are crucial for restoring movement, improving quadriceps activation and gradually rebuilding confidence in the knee.

ACL rehab is a marathon, not a sprint! 🏃‍♂️

Getting the basics right early on helps lay the foundations for everything that follows.

5 • M I N S

You all know I love my research, but this little find is courtesy of @thoroughbred_mum

Cathcart et al. (2024) To give you a very short summary - 5minutes a day, 5 days a week, for 4 weeks showed reduced postural sway (so better balance) and increased topline.

In the study, they had all 4 feet on the pads. However this is definitely a two person job to try to get Cash on all four. He seemed to find two pads a struggle initially to be honest.

In the study they paused the timer every time the horse stepped off the pads, so that’s what I did. 5 minutes soon ended up being 20minutes. He was really getting the hang of it by the end though and I hope we can progress to 4 pads!

They were given food at chest height during the study, so I did too. But he quickly scoffed it and got bored 🙈 I think next time I’ll not offer the food so that he’s not then searching for more.

Interesting stuff!

I then gave him a little massage on his larger muscles because his lesson yesterday will have been hard going too.

Oh! The pads were from TEMU by the way! About a fiver each!

Some seriously crunchy adjustments here.

Jenn gets the usual aches and pains of life and caring for young children. Fortunately she’s married to the chiropractor.

Full spinal MOT, some work with the @pulsioofficial and finished with some blocking.

As always, advised to do some specific mobility exercises and lifestyle advice.
