“What We Do Is Secret” a solo exhibition by Heather Kelly is up in the Rectangle Gallery for this week!

Artist statement
I speculate on stories that remain untold over nearly a century of counterintelligence; the seductive wink of a conspiracy asking me to piece it together. words and images sit alongside and rub against one another in an archive of declassified documents and notes taken during phone calls. If I squint my eyes hard enough, do the answers come into focus? If I ask with just the right arrangement of words, will you tell me? What lies beyond the security gate, inside a locked file cabinet in your office, down an underground tunnel in the high desert?

She received a BFA from Carnegie Institute of Technology, Pittsburgh, PA in 1964 and an MFA from Columbia University in 1967. Kozloff was a major figure in both the Pattern and Decoration and the Feminist art movements of the 1970s. In 1979, she began to focus on public art, increasing the scale of her installations and expanding the accessibility of her art to reach a wider audience. Kozloff has since executed a number of major commissions in public spaces.

Recent solo exhibitions of Kozloff’s work include: Joyce Kozloff: How We Know What We Know, John Michael Kohler Arts Center, Sheboygan, WI (2024); Joyce Kozloff: Co+Ordinates, Trout Gallery, Dickinson College, Carlisle, PA (2008); Joyce Kozloff: Voyages + Targets, Spazio Thetis, Venice, Italy (2006); Joyce Kozloff: Exterior and Interior Cartographies, Regina Gouger Miller Gallery of Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA (2006); and Joyce Kozloff: Topographies, Contemporary Art Center of Virginia, Virginia Beach, VA (2002).

Today at 10am, Pap Souleye Fall joins us for our Visiting Artist Lecture Series in the Perception Lab (VA1016)! @papsouleye00

Pap Souleye Fall is a Senegalese American artist and a recent graduate of the Yale School of Art. Their multidisciplinary output spans the realms of video, performance, comic book art, and cosplay.

Fall is deeply influenced by the community, world-building, and self-fashioning associated with internet subcultures and online fandoms—specifically the Black Otaku community. They conceive of their art, in turn, as akin to fan art—as DIY “merch” or “cosplay” for the imaginary narratives that undergird their oeuvre. In this sense, Fall’s work is less a traditional art practice than an ever-expanding cosmology of images and objects that shifts and flows in evolving constellations of meaning. For Fall, the modalities of speculative fiction, gameplay, and comics are potent creative engines, providing strategies by which members of the African diaspora might navigate and transcend systems of global oppression.

Fall’s work has been the subject of several solo exhibitions, most recently at Stellarhighway (2025, New York), Blade Study (2025, New York), Marginal Utility (2024, Philadelphia), Rosenwald-Wolf Gallery (2024, Philadelphia), Gratin (2023, New York), and Galerie Éthiopiques (2018, Senegal). They have also appeared in group exhibitions at Mixed Media Space (2025, North Adams, Massachusetts), Institute of Contemporary Art (2025, Portland, Maine), Below Grand (2025, New York), Canada (2025, New York), and Hesse Flatow (2025, Amagansett, New York), among many other galleries and institutions.

“De Una Pendeja a Otra”
A collaborative show by Mariluz and Yaslín
On view Oct 7-18
Reception Oct 8 @ 7pm

As we hold on to the remaining hope and whimsy of our last year in undergrad we want to share our collection of collages and drawings with you!! We tend to argue about our work because it’s so different, so we decided to meet in the middle and exhibit our “libros de pendejadas”. Four years of gathering, cutting, and gluing all while navigating art school were what helped us keep our sanity. We took nothing seriously in this entire process so please laugh with us! Join us at the Art forum on the 8th at 7pm for our reception, we’d love to see you there.

It’s been such a treat to teach at SUNY Purchase this fall and a real pleasure to have my work in the thoughtfully curated faculty show. Reception Wednesday, 10/7 at 6 pm!

Good Question, an exhibition at The Richard and Dolly Maass Gallery, celebrates the vibrant life of the Painting & Drawing Department at SUNY Purchase in 2026. The exhibition features paintings and drawings by sixteen full-time and part-time faculty members whose teaching experience in the School of Art+Design ranges from twenty years to one semester. The work of these artists shows decades of dedicated experimentation, curiosity, and even bewilderment. When asked to share some “unknowns” they grapple with in their studio practice, they offered some good questions.

From which point do you find the center?
Where does the river begin?
What does the reality of our flux state look like?
Is it in here or out there?

What is a good question? Perhaps it is one born of curiosity, one that mediates inner and outer worlds, one that remains open-ended and leads to deeper inquiry. The exhibition Good Question offers a response in the words of Paul Cézanne: “I will answer you with pictures.”
