I could really feel how deeply Onome (@3ft_o) has love for his daughters, for his family!

The way having kids can bring clarity into our lives!

And yes, we’re super lucky living with the technology available to us, thank god for FaceTime… being able to chat so easily when we miss our loved ones!

So I got to watch @kokorokomusic play at @dingofestival! Then I got to film a quick chat with the band backstage!

But then this happened! I got to have an “Are you a dad?” chat with Onome (@3ft_o) afterwards, walking the streets of Byron, chatting all things dad life, hearing about his young daughters!

It was such a lovely, cup-filling chat. I’ll say no more & leave it with you to have a watch. This is part 1 of 3 of our conversation.

And yes… I’m really struggling on iPhone storage! 😅🫠

Was a lovely arvo stopping Daniel (@deevvdee) for an "Are you a dad?" chat, walking along in Marrickville.

Being a parent is the great equalizer, it doesn’t matter how old you are, but often how old your kids are! I've met many different dads now & esp there's the dads in their late 40s, early 50s just having kids, and the irony of their job credentials not really meaning much to a baby that just wants to be fed, changed & slept. It's a humbling process no matter where you stand in life. So I'm thankful that 8yrs in on parenting, I feel up for sharing as much of what I know has helped with being a dad so far.

One of those things I've found with my parenting journey, is (the difficulty) trying to meet other parents & create a friendship community as a dad. Which is why I started @qualitydads, to help foster & have a place of support for dads, to share resources we could all benefit from.

The arvo vibes were just too good, I had to ask if Daniel wanted to keep chatting over a cold beer... thankfully @batchbrewingcompany was just across the road (I mean we are in Marrickville, like 10 breweries to chose from!).

A nice little stroll across to A.P Place (@a.p.bread) has us lining up for the Porchetta sandwich. 🥓

The beast of a thing has @issac_eatsalot teaching me the Anacoda approach of simply dislocating one’s jaw to fit the mouth around it all, and hope for the best!

A brief ASMR Crackling moment.

We talk table etiquette on what one might do should you find a chewy bit needing to be discreetly spat out.

I’m officially bestowed the title of ‘Scrapman’ 🙆🏽‍♂️

Issac’s approach on leftovers & what he might do, should he be eating 3 sambos in a row… a respectful way to share the food to those in need.

Alright here it is, “Are you a dad?” I’m joining @issac_eatsalot on his epic mission to eat at only @a.p.bread for the entire day. We kick off our adventure at AP House, he’s undecided on going the Friend Chicken sandwich or the Cheeseburger. We leave it to the chefs to make the decision for us! (Thanks @jimmy_larcombe).

I’m learning the ropes on how to be a Food reviewer & not just use my usual descriptives of “Mmm, yum, tasty, saucy”. 😂

Issac throws in his stance on the “101 Best burger in the world” list! 💥

And I get to play official eat the leftovers cleanup team, swooping in on those hot chips! Still hot, was not mad about it. 😋

I recently met @issac_eatsalot for an “Are you a dad?” chat, which at the end I asked if I could follow him next time to see how he actually does Food reviews!

So if you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to eat delicious food all day & have critical reviews about it… this is the one to follow along!

Here’s a little teaser for now, as we set out to check out @a.p.bread across Syd!!

Spotting a truck in the distance I take a chance in asking Alan “Are you a dad?”, whilst he’s lugging a huge piece of meat on his shoulders! Thankfully he is! Has a boy & a girl.

He’s making it look effortless whilst answering my barrage of questions, I’m so intrigued to find out what makes him tick & how he applys what he does as a Meat Carter toward being a dad.

Turns out his son is super stoked getting to work with his dad during the shool holidays, makes a solid buck too & I’m sure is learning a lot through the real world experience of being challenged & everything else he’d be exposed to on the delivery run. I’m impressed he has carried 2 goats!

The cuts of meat weigh anywhere from 20-100kgs! That is no joke!

I love Alan’s approach to parenting “When the fires come, you put ‘em out”. You set them up & prepare them the best you can as a parent, and they should be able to take care of the rest... which is very much what we’re all having to be ready for as parents, the moment our kids are set free from us.

I’m keen to get a chance to follow Alan on a meat carting delivery... so stay tuned for when that happens!

“Are you a dad?” On a drizzly day getting to meet Florian, who has a 5yo boy (was born 7 weeks prematurely!).

Wonderful to hear about his German heritage & how he’s teaching his son to speak the language. Of course there’s some good fart words in the vocabulary, which I learnt “Pupsen”. The fart & burp moments can definitely be timely when things get tense at home or at the dinner table, when everyone just needs a moment to laugh & remember not to take life so seriously.

Hearing about how Florian got into his profession as a Workplace designer... more to come in part 2 of how his work also helps inform his family dynamic!

“Are you a dad?” meeting Thom @thom.mcf, what are the chances of getting to have a dad chat meeting a paediatrician on the street?!

Cool to hear him approach his kids in a gender neutral way, and I could start to guess his profession when he said “use our gentle hands”.

Interesting to hear about kids facing anxiety, ADHD & autism, how the school system has a long way to go to help them feel successful a majority of the time.

That in practicing paediatrics, “people give a sh*t” in wanting to help the lives of kids be in a better place.

There was lots more in our convo, so stay tuned for part 2.

“Are you a dad?” I had a few minutes chatting with Andrew before his Uber car arrived. It was great to hear from his experience parenting as someone who has older kids to me, that staying authentic & honest with them fosters two-way communication for them staying open about the things they do (the bad & the good).

With his profession in the science research space, that the scientific method can be applicable to all areas of life & can help our kids with what they choose to do. I looked it up! The key premise being: observation, question, hypothesis, experiment, analysis, conclusion.
