We turned this book launch event into a documentary. For this book launch, the idea was to produce the event like a documentary, not just another event coverage. We wanted to create a documentary that felt like the day itself capturing the energy, the conversations, the anticipation, the people, and all the moments in between. More than a record of the event, we wanted the documentary to tell the story in a way that takes you back to the day. The questions are rarely the story. The story exists long before the camera starts rolling. Great documentary filmmaking isn’t built around questions. It’s built around story architecture. “We’ve written the questions. Can you come and shoot our documentary?” that’s not how documentaries work. When an experienced documentary team conducts an interview, we’re not simply asking random questions to see what happens. We already have a strong understanding of what each contributor is likely to say and, more importantly, why we’re speaking to them in the first place. A corporate documentary exists to communicate a brand’s purpose, values, impact, or transformation. Every scene, every interview, and every answer should move that story forward. Every interview answer has a purpose. Every contributor serves a role. Every scene should reinforce the film’s objective and the brand’s communication goals. The questions are simply a guide. We help the contributor arrive naturally at the moments that support the overall narrative. If you’re planning a brand documentary, let’s start with the story, not the questions.
