The Billy Cart Race is back for the fifth time in North Melbourne, along with a street party full of fun for everyone. Saturday 17 October 2026🏎️

What a ride! 🏁🫖 And what a day at the Queensberry Cup!

Our very own Chai-Fuelled Racer finally hit the track!

Built by Apoorv and Aveer with the talented men from the North & West Melbourne Neighbourhood Centre's Men's Shed, this little beast was ready to race.

Aveer took the wheel. Hit the hay bales. The racer broke! 😂

A wonderful friend came to rescue our little driver, while our very own pit crew carried the broken racer back.

Then came the repairs, a lot of teamwork and some good old jugaad! 🔧

Apoorv got it back on the track... only to have his own share of racing drama! 😂

Thankfully, our chai van was there to keep everyone fuelled!

But amongst all the racing madness, there was another moment that stayed with us.

Melbourne's Lord Mayor Nick Reece was there, chatting with everyone, appreciating our little creation and happily stopping for a photo.

At a time when there's so much division and hostility around the world, it reminded me how special it is to live somewhere our elected leaders can mingle so freely with the community.

We don't always have to agree with our leaders, but being able to meet them, talk to them and respectfully disagree is something worth protecting. ❤️

A huge thank you to the Queensberry Cup organisers, our wonderful friends, the Men's Shed crew and everyone who cheered us on!

Broken racer. Unbroken spirits. And yes, we danced through it all! 💃🕺😂

Had a fantastic street stall at the Queensberry Cup this weekend, talking with my constituents about how Labor is delivering for them.

A huge shout out to the volunteers who make these community events happen. You are the best of our city and I can’t wait to support you in years to come!

Our wholesome weekend at @queensberrycup 🤎 This event really was the sweetest! Finn ran laps around this place on his Balance Bike, no doubt he would have jumped in a Billy Cart if I allowed him too 😅 .. One thing at a time @_zalane_ Perfect for his age!

North Melbourne turned blue today 💙😉 and what a beautiful day it was for the Queensberry Cup! @queensberrycup

The weather was absolutely perfect, the community turnout was wonderful, and the atmosphere along Errol Street was full of colour, laughter, cheering, and local pride. A huge thank you to everyone who came along, and especially to our marvellous local volunteers your energy, generosity and hard work made this event such a success.

The Queensberry Cup is more than a billycart race. It is a celebration of North Melbourne: our creativity, our diversity, our businesses, our families, and the strong community spirit that makes this neighbourhood so special.

It was also a timely reminder of the importance of our neighbourhood house. This year’s Cup marked 50 years of the North & West Melbourne Neighbourhood Centre — a place that brings people together, supports local residents, builds connections, and helps our community thrive. Events like this show exactly why neighbourhood houses matter: they create belonging, opportunity, and shared joy.

I even received some love from Virginia Trioli thank you! @latrioli

And we were treated to a beautiful presentation of Forró from Brazil from @lovetoforro.melbourne North Melbourne was Brazilian too! 💙🇧🇷

And what a surprise at the end of the day visiting Sokol Melbourne Inc. / Czech House was a wonderful way to finish such a special community celebration. 💙

📍 Queensberry Cup — Corner of Errol Street and Queensberry Street, North Melbourne VIC 3051.
Thank you, North Melbourne. What a beautiful day. 💙😉

🥤 BIKE N' BLEND at the Queensberry Cup: Recap

Today, Wombat Collective brought Bike n' Blend to the Queensberry Cup, where we served up 100+ smoothies and spent the day connecting with the local community through biking and blending, alongside lots of smiles and good conversations.

Throughout the day, we met so many young children who enjoyed the biking experience, stopped by for smoothies, and made the stall a little more memorable with their enthusiasm for our work. We even got to share some lollies with them too!

One supporter deserves a special mention: a young boy came back three times to buy our smoothies throughout the day and told us he loved our work. Moments like these remind us that community engagement and comnections isn't always about grand gestures, rather sometimes it's these small interactions that stick with you for a long time 🫶

From making plenty of Queensberry and berry smoothies to chatting with families and watching the children enjoy their day, Bike n' Blend gave us another opportunity to contribute to the community in a simple but tangible way.

At Wombat Collective, we believe that international students and multicultural young people have so much to contribute to the communities they call home. Today was a chance for us to put that belief into action by connecting with people in our local community!

A huge thank you to all our amazing volunteers - Nisha, Nadunie, Sky, Anudish, Ella, Leo and Kate, who made today possible, and to everyone who stopped by and supported our stall today 🥹

We're glad to be part of a community that brings people together. Till next year!🥤
