Last Saturday, the Berlin-based collective, Queens Against Borders, celebrated its 10-year anniversary and a decade of bringing queer, trans, refugee, and migrant performers together through events, club culture, and community. They re-united artists and supporters for an evening of discussions, visual art, music, dance, and elevated snacks at Portal Galerie, Alte Münze. Nadia Says spoke with organizer and performance artist, The Davish, about the achievements of QAB over the past ten years.

Still in awe of @kekiklerce spech about the latest crackdown against LGBTQIA+ communities in Turkey at the @queensxborders 10-year anniversary this Saturday.

Hearing it also made us both mad and determined. The developments aren’t new (just the extreme escalation), and her analyses of the Turkish case could have been a copy-paste of our latest “Stories from the Beauty Parlor” Istanbul podcast episode we released in May. Even sadder, some of the interviews with Turkish feminists were even done back in 2024.

Every feminist and queer person seems to have known in which direction things were going. Still, these communities and movements are not funded or equipped enough to be the strong countermovements and safe spaces they need to be.

That’s why we do what we do. That’s why we continue to show up.

Please listen to the whole speech! And our Turkey episode can be listened to here:

You can also support this type of work with just one click, by voting for @beautyparlor.stories, using the link in Stories from the Beauty Parlor’s bio, to help us re-distribute €1,000 to @queerberg_collective local community work (and 4000 € for other feminist grassroots).

Let’s keep showing up!

A DECADE OF EMPOWERMENT

“Ten years, countless stages, and one message: BIPoC empowerment. 10-10-10s Across the Board! We celebrate a decade of bringing queer, trans, refugee and migrant artists together through performance, Club Culture and community. For this special anniversary, QAB reunites artists and long time supporters who have shaped its stages over the years for a Curated Exhibition Experience, House-party Like performance show at Portal Galerie. A night to mark why we started, celebrate what we have built and survived together, and dance towards what comes next.”

Saturday, 10 October 2026
22:00 — Exhibition Opening
22:00 — 23:00 — DJ set
23:00 — 01:00 — Performances + DJ transitions
01:00 — 03:00/04:00 — DJ set

Queens Against Borders is a Berlin-based performance and community platform creating space for queer, trans, refugee and migrant artists since 2015. Bringing together artists from SWANA and beyond, QAB uses drag, dance, music and performance to share our own narratives, build solidarity and create spaces where our communities can be seen, celebrated and heard.

The Kolonnadenbar has closed its doors. One summer spent dancing, sitting, listening and watching the sun go down between the columns of Museumsinsel — all made possible by everyone who showed up.

Thank you to @staatlichemuseenzuberlin, @spkberlin and @museumsinselberlin for the partnership during this anniversary year. And thank you to everyone who played, sang, danced and listened.

@claudiahammer.photo captured the summer for us — 13 shots, one last look back.
