Two women together? They must just be really good friends.👀

But what if they’re not?

What if they’re in love?
What if they’re attracted to each other?
What if they simply see each other in a way that the world keeps refusing to imagine?

A woman experiencing romantic and/or sexual attraction towards other women. 🌈

And yet, lesbian women are still often told things like, “You just haven’t met the right man,” or “I can change your mind.”

But someone’s sexuality isn’t a puzzle for you to solve, and it certainly isn’t an invitation to prove that you can change them.

A lesbian woman doesn’t need a man to “complete” her, explain her sexuality, or turn her straight.

She already knows who she is.

And just like every other sexuality, being lesbian isn’t something to be ashamed of. It’s simply one of the many beautiful ways people experience love, attraction and connection. 🩷

Maybe the world doesn’t need to understand every kind of love immediately.

Maybe it just needs to learn how to respect it.

What is one assumption about lesbian women you wish people would stop making? 🌈

For so many of us, the word “gay” didn’t arrive as an identity.

It arrived as an insult.

Something people whispered.
Something people laughed at.
Something thrown around as a joke when someone didn’t fit the expected idea of masculinity.

And somewhere along the way, we started learning that being called gay was something we should feel ashamed of.

But being gay is simply a sexual orientation being attracted romantically and/or sexually to people of the same gender.

There is nothing dirty about it.
Nothing inferior about it.
Nothing that needs to be “fixed.”

And being straight doesn’t make someone better, more normal, or more deserving of respect.

Gay isn’t a gaali. Being gay isn’t an insult.

The insult was never in the identity.
It was in the shame we attached to it.

Maybe it’s time we take that shame away from the word and let it belong to the people who wear it with pride. 🌈

And if you grew up hearing “gay” used as an insult, tell us:

What did you wish someone had told you back then?

So… what does queer actually mean? 🌈

Think of it like an umbrella.

Just like an umbrella can cover different things underneath it, queer can be used as an umbrella term for people whose sexuality and/or gender identity doesn’t fit within traditional heterosexual and/or cisgender expectations.

That can include people who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, transgender and many other identities.

So now I’m curious…

What was your first ‘wait… am I queer?’ moment?

Comment below and save this for your next Queer 101 conversation. 🩷

CALL FOR CONTRIBUTORS: Zeenat - Queerness and Beauty

Art Is(t) Queer, an arts initiative of @ddaf_india, invites contributors for Zeenat — a community-led queer zine exploring the many ways we understand, experience, question, and create beauty.

For this volume, Zeenat focuses on the intersection of queerness and beauty. What becomes possible when beauty is defined by those who have long been excluded from defining it?

We’re interested in beauty that exists beyond dominant standards — in survival, resistance, care, identity, intimacy, joy, and the things we were once taught to hide.

You may submit a proposal for personal narrative, poetry, illustration, collage, photography, mixed media, or any other creative format your idea takes shape in.

📝 At this stage, we’re looking for your idea, not a finished piece.

📅 Last date to submit: 11 October, 2026

For centuries, the standards of beauty, of who gets to express and be seen, have been set by narrow gazes. But these standards have never held still, they’ve shifted with every era.

In that spirit, and in the spirit @thezeenataman has long carried, as she said, go into the world exactly as you are.

Join us in this conversation and share your own definitions of beauty, shaped by your personal ideas and lived experience.

Come define beauty. Your chance is coming soon.

Eyes are the window to the soul, or so we’re told.

One can find all about training your muscles to hold a certain eye shape on the internet these days. Doe eyes, almond eyes, hunter eyes, deer eyes, there’s a tutorial for each one. As if the shape of a window changed what passes through it.

If an eye can be trained to look a particular way, perhaps it can also be trained to see beyond it.

Come explore all things beautiful with us and define what you see as your idea of beauty.

And the show is begins on the floor of British High commission Residence... Honouring the past , Shaping the future...celebrating progress and commemorating the 8th anniversary of the striking down of section 377 in India... In this exhibition I presented my paintings the series of "Eden garden".
.
Here about the "Eden Garden" 👇.
.
Since childhood, we are all told about Adam and Eve,and we know the story of Adam and Eve. But I feelthat Adam and Eve have been tried to be representedas the perfect and ideal figures of a human male andfemale. What if someone is born with different body parts? They are also a part of nature. But according tosociety, a fixed body criteria has been set here - thatif body features are even slightly different from theideal figure, then it is considered unnatural orabnormal. My question is, why do we need these labels? Whydon't we fit into only one criteria, and that is 'human'?So, in this painting you can see that those figures areerotically intimate. Just like any other four peoplewould be intimate, they are also the same, so this isvery natural. Just on the basis of slightly different genetical body parts, to call them unnatural or
abnormal is not right. We know some children are queer by birth. We haveno right to divide them on the basis of their figures. We all have our own pride. And we are proud of itbecause nature accepts us.

We all know @thezeenataman as the woman who broke many moulds Hindi cinema had set for a leading lady. Be it in Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Hare Rama Hare Krishna, Insaaf Ka Tarazu, whichever film you first saw her in, she was impossible to look away from.

She was the it girl before “it girl” was even a phrase. Many of the new generation may know her from her online presence and love her for it, but few realise just how much of a legend she already was, decades before any of us were watching or born!

Here, she puts into words something we don’t say enough: beauty was never something to chase or perform. It’s already within us, we just need to explore it.

If you wish to define beauty too, we have got something exciting planned for you.

Come explore all things beautiful with us.

Some glimpses of what went down at the U-Haul Carnival 🎡 at Shellbeacon Café! ✨

Thank you, @queergully , for this wonderful opportunity to be a part of the celebration marking the 8th anniversary of the landmark judgment that decriminalised homosexuality and upheld the dignity and rights of the LGBTQIA+ community in India. 🏳️‍🌈
