Are you career fair ready?! We have tips to get you prepped for next week! Swipe left 😁.

The fair is on October 1st and 2nd, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the hotel at UMD. Day one will focus on STEM, while day two will be open to all industries.

Learn more about the fair and register on Handshake at Go.umd.edu/fallfair. 🖥️

#UMD #CareerFair #UniversityofMaryland #Terrapins #GoTerps

Install handshake on your phone! Fast Booth check-ins: scan employer QR codes instantly to share your contact information and log your visit without waiting in long lines. Visit go.umd.edu/ handshake to download the app.

Research, research, research; know your employers before the fair. Find out which organizations are attending on Handshake and research them. You could even make a list of a few booths you want to hit up.

Prepare your resume. Bring multiple copies of your resume to share with employers. Give your resume a quick refresh and make sure your experience and skills are up to date.

Your 30-second pitch. Allow employers to get to know you! Practice introducing yourself by sharing your name, major, interests, and relevant experience! Connect your experience to your goals by highlighting your skills and mentioning an opportunity that interests you.

Dressed for success. Consider the field you're interested in pursuing. Research what is typical in that field, then take your dress a step further. Bring your career swag if a suit is typical attire in the field, or a T-shirt and jeans if a casual look is typical, or a polo shirt or a nice blouse.

What to bring. Bring your essentials! A small notebook or notepad and a pen can help you jot down key information and next steps. Bring what helps you feel prepared and confident. Water, a snack, mints, or anything else you might need to feel ready! But remember that chewing gum while speaking with a recruiter might not be the best look.

Define your goals. Decide what you want to get out of the fair. You might want to explore career paths or find internship and job opportunities. Set a few goals for yourself. Plan to meet a certain number of employers or even learn about opportunities you hadn't considered.

@umdcs grad Esha Singhai's next stop is @google's Associate Product Manager (APM) program! In this two-year rotational program, Esha hopes to work on consumer-facing products and further explore how tech integrates into our lives.

During undergrad, Esha worked with @thedbk as a product manager to help build products such as DBK Apartments, a platform that helps students find housing. She also mentored two freshmen this year with @umdawc, helping them navigate classes and get involved on campus.

"[Mentoring] was a full-circle moment for me, because as a freshman, I was mentored through @umdcatalyst and @questumd," Esha said. "Being able to pass that on to the next generation of women in computing has been really rewarding."

Forever Grateful. Forever Leading. Forever Smith.

On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, I officially graduated from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business.

Looking back, these past 4 years in Smith truly changed the course of my collegiate career for the better. The same leadership qualities instilled in me growing up were cultivated within Smith.

Smith’s programs, professors, advisors, and structure helped build me into a dynamic, purpose-driven leader. Every late night, every tough project, every capstone and every lesson helped me think differently, lead with intention and continue seeking better for myself and the world around me.

One thing Smith gave me that I will forever cherish is the people that I’ve met along the way. The community within Smith is one of a kind. I’m beyond grateful for every advisor, professor, colleague and friend I’ve met in Smith who poured into me, believed in me, and never let me give up on my goals of making an impact within Smith, across UMD’s campus, and beyond.

Ever wondered what all those colorful cords (and medals) worn by Terp graduates during @commencement_umd mean?

@odkumd: UMD’s Sigma Circle, part of the national leadership honor society, recognizes students and faculty who have made meaningful contributions to campus life. The tri-color cord features white for scholarship, black for service and light blue for fellowship.

@umdveterans: This red, white and blue braided cord is awarded to graduating student veterans.

@questumd: Undergraduates studying business, engineering or science who complete the three-year program have been awarded a medal since 2012.

@umd_fire: Students who complete the three-semester program receive a red and black cord from @umd_our.

Leadership and Community Service-Learning: Students who take on leadership roles with @umdab, @mdmentorcorps, Maryland LEAD, @terpsforchange and @terpsvote are awarded a braided teal and white cord from the Office of Leadership and Community Service-Learning.

@umdrecwell: RecWell employees who work across Eppley Recreation Center, the Bike Shop, Reckord Armory and more can receive this red, black and yellow cord.

@terpsexceed_umd: TerpsEXCEED (EXperiencing College for Education and Employment Discovery), a two-year program for students with intellectual disabilities, gives cords to its participants and lead peer mentors.

@umd_entomology: The medallion recognizes students who complete a research thesis on insects and earn the honors certification in entomology.

Green Terp Bucket List: New this year,@sustainableumd is awarding dark green cords to students who complete 20 tasks representing individual action, community building, research and more to become more environmentally literate.

Computing Catalyst: The Catalyst, which creates an inclusive computing environment, gives two cords: a purple and white one as well as a red, yellow and black one.
