🌿 QOTD: Last book you bought and regretted?⠀
⠀
The other day @pagesblonde tagged me to do the #constellationbooktag. I‘m currently so behind with keeping up with all the book tags because of my 2-week insta-jail time but I had so much fun completing this tag! I‘ve tagged some of you lovelies to do it too, feel free to jump in.⠀
⠀
💫 Andromeda (a book that didn’t meet my expectations): They Both Die at the End. While I did enjoy the book on the whole, I wasn’t 100% invested in the story. I guess I was looking for that big bang moment but it never really happened, and I didn’t feel emotionally connected to the story. More on it in my previous post!⠀
⠀
💫 Altar (a book I read for school): A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This comedy was probably one of my least favourite plays I had to read in school & I still can’t believe how ‘dirty’ some of scenes were😂⠀
⠀
💫 Cassiopeia (a book you bought and later regretted): That was easy — We Hunt the Flame. I think the book was pretty enjoyable and I still would’ve picked up the book If I had borrowed it from the library. I’m mad about all the money I spent on this book though because the book was so predicable & it’s probably the only reason I even bothered to finish it (that, and also because it was my book club’s read).⠀
⠀
💫 Phoenix (adjective to describe your last read): Okay. (How It All Blew Up)⠀
⠀
💫 Dragon (a book you enjoyed): An Ember in the Ashes! I read it a few years ago (when YA fantasy was still my favourite genre and not so predictable) and this book was mind blowing. I can’t wait till the fourth book in this series releases!⠀
⠀
💫 Minor Lion (book you read in a few hours): The Poppy War! I read it on a train ride from Germany to Luxembourg & I devoured it! it’s so well researched — while it is a fantasy book, it’s also heavily based on Chinese mythology AND history. ⠀

💌 It must've been weeks but I was tagged by @bottomofthebookshelf and @thebookishbrownie to participate in the Last Now Next Challenge a little while ago. To give it a little twist, I decided to rate the books on their diversity (bipoc + queer representation) too!
.
.
🌿 Last read: Mystic City by Theo Lawrence. Genre: YA dystopian? The novel is set in an alternate New York in the future but the dystopian setting seemed very unrealistic to me. Diversity? 1.5/10. The main characters are clearly white and straight but some minor characters' physical appearances/sexual orientation were left blank so we don't know for sure. Author didn't make any efforts to emphasise their backgrounds though so that's a minus point.
.
.
🌿 Current read: What's Left of Me by Kat Zhang. Genre: YA dystopia/scifi/fantasy. Each body is born with 2 souls but one soul becomes more dominant until the 'twin soul' is eliminated. Diversity: 4 (perhaps more)/10. I do have to say that I'm still in the middle of the book so I don't know the final cast yet. Main characters are white af (just look at the cover) but some characters seemed to be mixed-race so I'm being hopeful they will play a bigger role in the book! No mentionings of queer characters whatsoever yet though.
.
.
🌿 Next read: Loveless by Alice Oseman. Genre: YA contemporary. The main character is finally starting uni but her lack of sexual attraction to other people makes her question her sexual identity. Diversity: ??/10. I haven't started the book yet but I'm hoping it'll be a 9 or 10 read. I mean, it's finally featuring an aro-ace main character (hopefully)!

I'm tagging some of you lovelies to participate in the challenge & anyone who wants to join! & Apologies if you've already been tagged, you can Block Me by Tahereh Mafi
