Head Tennis Professional Sunset Hills Country Club coaching some great junior players!

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

The biggest challenge thing I’ve seen since emerging into the SoCal/Los Angeles tennis environment are athletes “sticking to the plan.”
➡️ There’s a constant “I need something better” when in reality there’s little to no consistency between coaching, clinics, trainers, PT, and sometimes scheduling.
➡️ I get everyone wants to be successful all the time on court, but if you constantly look at it with a microscopic lens and never a big picture, you’re going to do more harm than good. Consistency matters.
🎾 @jamesborchard went through a massive growth spurt that required more adjusting the past month but has shown improvements because he shows up, puts effort, and understands it’s not just about today.
🎙️ If more parents and some coaches actually understood what long term development AND the duration coaches spend with players on tour (years sometimes), then we would see a better product. That’s the reason I respect @quinnborchard and many other parents who were athletes themselves in some capacity.

Have to give credit where it’s due: @alex.natera shared an interesting approach with deceleration and I couldn’t help but see the benefits it could do for tennis athletes 🎾
👨‍🍳 My twist on repeated SL depth drops however is adding in a SL Depth Jump to bilateral landing. I think while eccentrically absorbing is crucial, how well can we produce from that single leg at a point would be a great transition for a full plyometrics experience.
💡 BTW, this is hard to reproduce in many environments so do your due diligence finding the right environment.
❗️ You can see the difference in training and chronological age between brothers (not to mention limb length now). Differences should be approached cautiously and coached individually.

Now hear me out…you continue working on the base you’ve created (hopefully) with their movement efficiency, mobility, eccentric control, jump training, ballistic med ball movements, AND eccentric focused deceleration training 💨
➡️ Between limb lengths increasing, cross sectional area (CSA), also increasing, and shifts from neural to hormonal influences, juniors will experience dips in performance during puberty. They’ll turn floppier momentarily and it’s crucial to continue working on their coordination, power, strength, and endurance so that they can minimize down periods where they’re trying to map their brain to their body more.

Too many benefits and not enough time! Forgot to mention the following benefits:
🔹Works as a great primer towards movement, lifting, or practice
🔹Increases sympathetic response
🔹Increases athlete buy-in
🔹Challenges athletes outside of their mastery and wheelhouse
➡️ Adding small sided games to your next group training environment sees too many benefits to ignore

Summers wrapped up. Lots of L1-L4 tournaments in the month, but still substantial improvements and new faces. Also, abandoned basketball hoops = external competitive target for depth jumps 🏀 📈

Four isometric positions that improve tennis sports performance than any other motions I’ve seen in my 13 year career:
🔹Single Arm Overhead Wall Bear ISO: pressing from horizontal and vertical pressure.
🔹Overhead Hang with Hip Flexion: anterior core engagement while maintaining flexion across multiple points.
🔹Spring Ankle 2: knee dominant single leg position that addresses structural deficiencies at joint angles.
🔹Front Foot Heel Elevated Split Squat: similar context but with a higher emphasis towards soleus recruitment (knee flexion)

Hear me out: what IF you moved laterally for the demands you have on court?
🦈 Sharks, I’m looking for $300k for 8% equity 📈

Operation: GET FAST ⚡️ 💨
👨‍🍳 The recipe isn’t complex but requires a rich environment.
➡️ We’re working on multiple qualities between shortening ground contact time, achieving relative tibia, hip flexor, & torso angles, speed, power, and strength from all relative muscle groups, ballistic movements for both vertical and horizontal force, absorbing forces quickly, and reinforcing strength at the ankle and knee 😮‍💨
