I want to share something personal that has followed me through the creation of this series.

When we began recording last year, I still had hope that I could save my eye. I had already lost half my sight in a complicated and baffling way, and when I realized there was a very real chance I could lose my eye completely, I decided this story needed to exist as an audio drama.

I released Episode Four the day I had my eye removed.

I don’t fully know how to describe what this project has meant to me since then. It has grown with me through chronic illness, grief, pain, disability, and loss.

When I first wrote The Sixth Sun, I was in a very dark place. My world had ended once already after being diagnosed with a chronic illness that changed everything I thought my life would be. I was grieving the version of myself that could be on my feet all day, go out worry-free, and live like a regular young creative.

And then I had to grieve myself again.

But through all of it, I learned that hope is not a feeling. Hope is an action. You have to create it actively, daily, and despite it all.

Even though I couldn’t save my eye, I know I fought for it with everything I had. And somehow, through that same hope, I kept creating art. I kept telling stories. I made something about hope when hope felt fragile and impossible.

Losing my eye doesn’t make me feel less hopeful. It reminds me that I was forever changed, but I also created something that brought people together. Something bigger than myself. Something made out of grief, love, and the belief that sincere art can be healing.

And that is something AI art will never be capable of.

Part of art is the reflection that comes from loss, pain, grief, and the choice to keep going anyway with your whole heart on display.

I could not be more grateful for the team behind The Sixth Sun. I wrote and created this, but it is what it is because of the incredible talent behind it.

Please check out our voice actor for Ollin, who was absolutely killing it on stage yesterday at his band @rukky.wav show, and our narrator @hansactingout ‘s book too. I’ll be doing a full feature on every member of our team on the website soon.

RELEASING SEPT 28-- The Sixth Sun, a project I've been writing, and drawing concept art for for a really long time.
It's a story about creation and hope as resistance in a world on the verge of collapse, and doom seems inescapable... And an underdog Trickster God becomes an unlikely ally in a fight against collapse.
The end isn't the end.
-
I wrote this while going through a very hopeless, difficult period with my health that left me permanently disabled, lost my left eye, and also dealing with a lot of anxiety about an uncertain future - but I wouldn't be here without hope, and I want to share a story I wrote, in hopes that the joy I found can spark it in someone else. Celebrating Mexica mythology with a modern twist, and celebrating human art and creativity in a time when it's needed more than ever, comes @the_sixth_sun
