Hello!
🌞
It’s not big secret that the hospitality industry is struggling - as operational costs rise for businesses at every level and consumers find they have less pocket money every pay check, more pubs struggle to make a business where money goes out faster than it comes in feasible. At the time of posting this, 2 pubs a day are closing in the UK.
🤝
Where do you turn when you’re struggling? Your colleagues? Your friends? Your family?
For these four businesses they’re literally the same thing!
All well established businesses within the Manchester beer scene and even better established friends and family; Blackjack, Station Hop, Reasons To Be Cheerful and Strawflower Ales have begun to work together on something fun and positive for all the drinkers that have supported these businesses over the last decade
🪴
Brewing a beer is just the start but each business has something they can bring to the table, so keep your eyes out for all the exciting things to come but we need YOU!

✋ Strawflower 5 is here!

🚲 Think of Rouleur; dry, bitter, bright and crisp, the quintessential pintable old stinky beer… Now forget all that! This is modern juice for chinning in the sunshine!

☀️ IBUs!? Forgeddabout ‘em. This is soft. This is fruity. This is fun beer. Using water more similar to what you would use for a stout, Floop has that gentle, rounded body without being overly oaty or sweet. Mosaic and Vic Secret deliver that stinky, sticky, ripe fruit and bright sharp lemon zest note and the malt bill of barley, wheat, oats and sugar keep it daffodil yellow, hazy without being soupy.

🚚 Trade! We couldn’t make up our mind what best to do with this so we stuck half in cask and half in keg! Very limited quantities of each so if you want to bag some let us know soon!

💁‍♀️ Drinkers! This has already gone out to a handful of pubs round Manchester so keep your eye out but will definitely be appearing on the handpulls and the taps at @r2bcbeercafe this weekend!

Good afternoon Muttonistas! A few weeks ago I visited @r2bcbeercafe , a craft beer bar that’s very local to me in South Manchester

Reasons to be Cheerful often have a nitro stout on tap but on this occasion they were serving Red Willow Amarillo Porter on cask (4.6% ABV)

I am a big fan of cask ales brewed by @redwillowbrewery and while I recall that they have a nitro stout that’s tasty but wasn’t quite right gas wise in their Macclesfield taproom, Cask is another matter.

Cask is a good method of delivery for Stouts and Porters and Reasons to be Cheerful usually have a good selection of cask offerings. While the tasting notes mentioned orange and chocolate, I was getting a slight coffee taste, which of course I don’t mind.

Amarillo Porter was a limited edition brew and you may well not be able to find it, but the point is, if you see a Red Willow cask stout or porter at your pub I’d recommend you try it!

Good morning Muttonistas!

As many of you know, I often have dry days and I often look for low/non alcoholic beers in such circumstances.

Many of you also can’t drink or don’t want to drink alcohol some or all of the time, and thankfully there’s quite a range of non alcoholic beers out there.

One of the best non alcoholic lagers out there is Nealko , by Budvar from Czechia, and it happened to be one of the many options available at my local craft beer bar, @r2bcbeercafe . The 0.5% ABV brews usually have that little of bit extra bite , and Nealko indeed has bite crispness and body.

One to consider for those who want to celebrate the festive season without alcohol, and if you’re passing by Reasons to be Cheerful craft beer cafe they’ll have well kept non or low alcoholic options for you

Good evening Muttonistas! Keep the 26th November 2025 pencilled in your diaries. A massive meet up and promotional ticketed event is scheduled for the 26th November at @thearchhouse_ah in Bermondsey, the home of @londonblack_ah by @anspachhobday .

Details are still being ironed out but please keep an eye out on my videos and posts for further details.

In the meantime I’m enjoyed an absolute creamer of a pint of London Black Porter at @r2bcbeercafe in South Manchester. Beautifully kept and poured, and while I’m not in Manchester as often as I used to be , I really hope to see London Black Porter on tap more often here , especially In the autumn and winter months.

Join me at the Arch House in Bermondsey on the 26th November 2025 for what promises to be an Absolute Creamer of an evening.

Watch this space!
