@homobloc with our merry band of sodomites @clubsodom and my man was as spectacular as ever.

I’m no good at getting photos of myself when I’m in work mode, there’s likely some more professional photos to come later but I’m not sure any of the things me and @mistiadesx did on stage are publishable on instagram so I’ll get these ones out now.

✨Acquisition News: We are delighted to announce the acquisition of @sarahjoy.ford Sarah-Joy Ford's 'Rachael, Study for After Artemisia [1 of 2] ' (2026) to the Katrin Bellinger Collection @the.artists.at.work . This piece focuses on her intergenerational working partnership with the artist Rachael Field @racfie and forms part of Ford's commitment to documenting and unfolding histories of artist-women within the queer community.

This watercolour painting, rendered in Schmincke Horadam Aquarell on Saunders Waterford paper, portrays Field at work in her studio in 2025. The pair of studies are part of a larger project, 'After Artemisia', in response to Field's 1986 painting of the same name, exploring self portraiture and representions of each other as lesbian artists at work. Forming an integral part of her creative practice, detailed watercolour portraits are only one element of Ford's lengthy process in her large-scale quilt-making. Ford is represented by @cassinellimills.

‘Ever since meeting Sarah-Joy Ford and Rachael Field I have been fascinated by their collaboration and friendship. Sarah-Joy’s mastery of watercolour and Rachael’s personal engagement with the Old Masters contribute to making this a meaningful addition to the Artist at Work collection.’ (Anita V. Sganzerla, curator)

The Katrin Bellinger Collection offers an intimate view of artists' lives, studios, tools, and methods, celebrating the enduring fascination with artistic creation across generations. A remarkable collection dedicated to the enduring theme of the artist at work from the Renaissance to the present day, bringing together more than 2000 examples in a range of media (drawings, paintings, prints, photographs, and sculpture).

Recent queer goings on

- Saturday Night Diva rocking it at Stretford Wives

- @racfie Painting Parlour at the fabulous @thevioletblondeshow

- Hat Works, hat museum fun

- Anne Lister birthday weekend - festival celebrating a socially conservative Tory landowner who employed kids down her mines.

But she's someone who defied convention, navigated life on her own terms despite being judged & ridiculed for her unconventional appearance & love for the ladies.

Her diaries document her active love life, plenty of Georgian girl on girl action

Fantastic hearing @jane.traies talk about 3000 Lesbians Go to York: The Story of a Queer Arts Festival book & film. The festival was founded by Jenny Roberts, a lesbian bookseller who happens to be trans. Just shows how trans women have always been a key part of lesbian community

Photo: Lesbians Who Kill: Lois Weaver (l) and Peggy Shaw (r)
Photo: Amy Meadow

For Lesbian Visibility Week, we’re spotlighting Lesbians Who Kill, a theatre work created by @split_britches, then a trio of artists: partners Lois Weaver & Peggy Shaw plus Deb Margolin. It was presented by Queer Up North at the Green Room on September 26th 1992.

Written by Margolin in collaboration with Shaw and Weaver, who performed the piece, Lesbians Who Kill was described as “a head-trip road trip, where the car never leaves the drive” and “at the intersection of kinky and kitsch.”

The piece emerged in response to media coverage of Aileen Wuornos, a US sex worker labelled a ‘lesbian serial killer’ in the late 1980s and early 1990s. A brief news article, encountered separately by the collaborators across the UK and US, became the catalyst for a new work that would explore Dostoevskian themes of ‘guilt by thought’ and intimacy in the context of an outside threat.

Rather than retelling Wuornos’s story directly, the performance reframed it through a fictional lens: two women sheltering in a car during a thunderstorm, listening to radio reports about the killer. Drawing on postmodern techniques, including song and dark humour, the piece investigated the spectre of male violence and the uneasy boundary between imagination and guilt.

Situated within the era’s radical queer performance scene, Lesbians Who Kill exemplified a commitment to reclaiming narrative and foregrounding lesbian perspectives.

Ford and Field are an intergenerational artist duo and lesbian art history project; Rachael Field (1965)
and Sarah-Joy Ford (1993). Both artists studied at Manchester School of Art and are based in the North
West.
Ford and Field have been collaborating since being brought together in a commission the exhibition
A Tall Order! curated by Dr Derek Horton and Dr Alice Correia at Touchstones in 2022. Field and Ford
have been awarded a Paul Mellon Curatorial research grant for their project The Art of Rachael Field:
lesbian art, archives and tradition [1988-2024]. The project will establish the Rachael Field collection
at The Bishopsgate Institute in London, and undertake curatorial research for the forthcoming Real
Lemon Re-Visited exhibition at Touchstones, Rochdale in 2028. Field and Ford hold a Visiting Research
Fellowship at The School of Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies at The University of Leeds
(2025-2028). Their research has been presented at The Women in Revolt seminar series at The

Me and @racfie are super excited that our new collaboration ‘Love and Protest 1988-2025’ is on display at @phmmcr for all of 2026

Thank you to @iapmcr for commissioning the work and curating the re/assemble exhibition funded by @heritagefunduk

Such a privilege to hang alongside the powerful banners and the histories of those who have fought for LGBTQ+ rights and against censorship in Manchester.

🔮🔮🔮

More about the work…:

This triptych brings together three works by lesbian artists Sarah-Joy Ford and Rachael Field, who share an ongoing intergenerational collaborative art practice. The work responds to collections research at The People’s History Museum, Glasgow Women’s Library and IAP:MCR oral histories.

Illegal on the Street 1988 depicts Field and her then partner on a Clause 28 march, where they witnessed police snatch arresting same-sex couples for kissing under the guise of the crime of “public disturbance”. Her new work We 2 Boys Together Clinging 2025 revisit’s this experience through the archive.

We 2 Girls Together Clinging 2025 depicts Ford and her wife on a Palestine solidarity march protesting the censorship of Comma Press’s event Voices of Resilience event at HOME, Manchester 2024. The work is a call to heed the lessons of section 28 activism. A call to keep fighting against homophobia, transphobia imperialism and racism, challenge censorship, and cultivate radical empathy and solidarity.
