What does a portfolio career look like? 🤔

Today we had our first National Macmillan Allied Health Professional forum chaired by June, @ji__nutrition and me with the expert support from @mij_9203 and Camille. Super proud to bring together many inspirational AHPs from across the UK to celebrate successes, share ideas and network.

I also got the amazing opportunity to be part of an innovative project led by our amazing cancer information nursing team led by Tracey and Selina, excited to share this when we’re allowed.

In between this I had many other meetings about the amazing work our teams convening in projects externally, EDI, meeting Tiger de Souza MBE our new Chief People and Culture with Bami talking about the REACH network we chair together, along with a quick catch up with my lovely mate Danielle.

I know my Macmillan days are busy (sorry if you’re exhausted just reading this) but it really doesn’t feel like work when I get to do so many different things, use my many skills as a therapeutic radiographer and help influence the future of cancer care 💚.

Guess what?

I’m running the London marathon 2027 for @macmillancancer 💚.

I do love a challenge and pushing myself so I am also going to be attempting to set a world record with @guinnessworldrecords…

Will keep it a surprise for now what I’m planning but get excited / praying for me already 😂.

Battle Cancer 2026 💪🏽.

Honoured to take part again this year with mainly people living with and beyond cancer and friends to raise nearly £2000 for @macmillancancer 💚.

Very special to come together like this and tackle the myth that people living with and beyond cancer need to be wrapped up in cotton wool. Physical activity and exercise is for everyone!!

Great reminder of my purpose as a cancer professional and still ALWAYS in awe of my incredible friend Sarah @getmebackuk. Thank you for bringing us together ❤️.

World Mental Health Day 💙

I want to talk about something we rarely say out loud in South Asian communities. Suicide is the biggest killer of men under 50 in the UK, yet men make up only around a third of referrals to NHS Talking Therapies.

For South Asian men, the silence is often louder. Half of us still believe there’s a stigma around therapy, and izzat (honour) and sharam (shame) teach many of us to stay strong, protect the family name and put everyone else first.

Research shows South Asian people in the UK experience higher psychological distress yet use mental health services less than any other ethnic group, and too many minoritised men only reach help when they’re already in crisis.

Speaking up isn’t weakness or a betrayal of our families; it’s how we protect them.

If you’re struggling, talk to someone you trust, your GP, or Samaritans on 116 123, any time ❤️.

…a pelvic patient who looks WAY too comfortable to actually have a full bladder 🤨.

RTTs know the interrogation starts before we’ve even gotten to name & DOB verification.

“Is your bladder full?”

“Yep!”

👀 Okay, but…

“How full?”
“When did you start drinking?”
“How much and WHAT exactly did you drink?”

“A cup.”

“…how many OUNCES? I need measurements, not a description of your cup design.” 😭

“Did you have coffee first?”
“Is that the only thing you’ve had to drink today?”
“Do you feel the urge to pee?”
“Yes.”
“…and you’re sure?” 🤨

Because meanwhile you’re casually strolling down the hallway. No urgency. No leg crossing. No shifting. No wiggling toes. No sweat beads forming…

Just ✨peace✨.

➡️ And my personal favorite:

RTT: “Is your bladder full?”
Patient, literally stepping out of the bathroom: “Yep!”

RTTs: 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

➡️ Patients who found this reel: IT ISN’T PERSONAL, WE PROMISE. 😂💛

➡️ Depending on your treatment, a comfortably full bladder can help move nearby organs like small bowel away from the treatment area and help reproduce the internal anatomy your treatment was planned around.

📍If it isn’t within the acceptable range on imaging, that can mean repeat imaging—getting you down, drinking more water, waiting, working you back into the schedule, and trying again.

We don’t want that for you either. 😭

We want to minimize unnecessary repeat imaging, treat you safely, AND keep the schedule moving.

And if it makes you feel better…

➡️ there’s a very good chance your RTTs are also holding their bladders right there with you. 😅

We’ve just had more practice pretending we don’t have to pee is all.

So when we ask for the 47th time:

“Are you SURE your bladder is full?”

Know we’re rooting very hard for your bladder…
while possibly ignoring our own. 😭

Bladder prep varies by treatment plan and department. Always follow your radiation oncology team’s instructions.
