Sometimes I’ll catch a glimpse of our space and I can’t believe we made this. And even though it’s not technically ours, (yes we have a landlord), it brings me so much joy that we were able to create this ourselves, for our team and our community!

This is why we are here. To be inspired, to create, to inspire others, to imagine the wildest most beautiful possibilities and make them a reality. That’s just a rule I live by - In my work, in love and life. I can’t look at a thing without imagining the greatest possibilities, and that’s probably why custom design comes so naturally and even on the longer days, never really feels like work. It’s been a while since I’ve done a proper introduction...

Hello, I’m Rae, the founder and designer behind Cival. I don’t come from money. I don’t have a trust fund or a family business waiting for me — just a frankly unreasonable amount of hard work, unwavering trust in myself, some very big dreams, and a never-ending creative consciousness.

I started this business in 2013, after losing my job and taking a big bet on myself. I had been planning my business for a while, and I was all in. I had an 18-month-old son, a hell of a work ethic, and a sprinkle of delusion — and I’ve been working 12-hour days ever since.

I’ve learned jewelry design, gemology, web development, marketing, CAD, production, photography, retail, construction — and quite a few things I never intended to become qualified in.

What began as one person making jewelry for markets in a hallway — with a dream of creating better things by hand — has taken many forms over the years, and I couldn’t be more proud of how far we’ve come: building a beautiful Milwaukee studio and showroom, and growing a team devoted to creating pieces that carry special meaning, has been incredibly challenging but also feels like my life’s purpose.

After about 6 months of working on this design with the help of my bench jeweler I’m excited to share the prototype of our new stone inlay and diamond set ring line.
.
The idea of combining unexpected materials in seemingly impossible ways is very has always been central in my sense of style and design. I love finding balance in unexpected combinations and paring in ways, that in theory shouldn’t work - but in reality are quite charming.
.
Our first test run features a black and gray quartz custom cut faceted outer bezel, seamlessly set with a natural gray diamond.
.
After this first round we will be making some adjustments, but will soon be launching a Jade and Emerald version as well as a bi-color Montana sapphire option in both pendant and ring variations.
