POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
4 months and some change have elapsed since the release of John Myrtle’s second mini-LP, “The Little World of You and Me”, & I am here to say it is one of the best releases I heard that was delivered in 2025. Not only is this a brilliantly crafted new set of songs but it is a symbolic & seismic shift by Myrtle… showcasing his undeniable pop prowess. I only know of a handful of people in the DIY Pop & Rock sphere that have the ability to write such charming hooks, smile-inducing melodies & yearning punch-to-the-gut lyricism so effectively. Oh boy… Mr. Myrtle might be the at the very top of the list. No better example comes to mind than on “I’ve Spent Lifetimes Loving You”… “The way you smile / Is so familiar to me / Is it true? ‘Cos my heart swears it to be / That I’ve spent lifetimes / Whole lifetimes loving you”. My goodness! The English singer-songwriter had spent most of July and parts of August on a US tour supporting The Symposium & then back again for another round in September. Rightfully, I heard plenty of stories of how he would captivate the audience… just himself, his guitar & his bag full of guitar Pop gems. I witnessed this exact charisma in earnest when he took the stage in Indianapolis, IN @ the Hi-Fi, in July. An undeniable honesty echoed from his voice — a storyteller right where he needed to be, sharing bits of himself to everyone in that room. What a treat. There is a vast maturity to Myrtle’s music… which has been steadily crafted & expanded over the last 6 years or so since the release of his debut 2019 EP, “Here’s John Myrtle” & 2021’s “Myrtle Soup”. This time around, that maturity & breadth seeps deep within every nook and cranny of each melody, hook & phrase. A nostalgic construction of realities & daydreams… blending & twisting together. To form a brand new story. “The Little World of You and Me” may only be 18-minutes long… but the world it creates takes an infinite hold on your heart. 💌 Photographs by me from July 10th, 2025.
