Every story has a moment before it begins. The quiet one. The one nobody sees. Before the lights. Before the people. Before the energy of 600 humans in the same space doing the same thing at the same time. That moment (let’s call it: the calm before the storm) is where we live.
Our photographer friend showed up just as we were finishing. Not enough time to catch everything. But just enough to catch the right things. The details we planned. The last adjustments to the script. The pieces of the narrative finding their place, one by one, before anyone arrived to experience it.
Because this wasn’t an event.
It was a story. Built in acts. With a beginning that started long before the first participant walked through the door.
The “claq” moment (action, lights, go) only makes sense because of everything that came before it.
And through his lens, our friend did what we were trying to do with the space.
Find the emotion in the detail.
These are the memories from two days that, for us, started way before anyone else arrived.
ACT 1. Done. Now we write ACT 2.
