🥳The Colin Dodds Memorial Trophy for the Young Historic Pilot Of The Year 2026.🏆

“Squadron Leader Colin Dodds was a member of the Historic Aircraft Association from its earliest formation and served on its Council – later the Management Committee – for more than 3 decades
eventually being appointed a Vice President in 2019. He served as Deputy Chairman from 1995 until 2018. An ex-RAF pilot and Vulcan captain Colin Dodds was also an enthusiastic De Havilland aircraft aviator. He was very much a doyen of the historic aircraft world flying Tiger Moth, Dragon Rapide, Piston Provost, Dh Dove and the North American Harvard. Always keen to promote and protect historic aviation Colin also supported the Brooklands Museum as their appeals director raising considerable funds for the Museum. He was an Air Display Authorisation Evaluator, Display Safety Committee Chairman and an Air Display Director. Colin also wrote an historical book published in 2005 – ‘The Story of De Haviland Dragon Types”. Following his death in 2020 his family donated the silver goblet trophy to the HAA in his memory as The Colin Dodds Young Historic Pilot Trophy.” - Historic Aircraft Association (HAA) Website

What a true honour it is to be recognised for something so incredible. A huge thank you to the HAA for this amazing award. It really keeps my passion alive for historic aircraft. From my first flight in a T21 to buying my share in the L4-H, historic aircraft have always been a true passion of mine throughout my aviation career. It’s a real privilege to be a part of this lovely aviation community.

2026 has been an incredible year for all things historic aircraft for me.
- January: Share brought in the L4.
- May: First solo in the L4.
- May: Chipmunk 80th Formation & first solo land away in the L4.
- June - RAF Cosford Airshow with the L4.
- June - Flight in the PBY Catalina.
- July - Cotswold Airport Flying in (L4 of course!)
- Oct - HAA Symposium

Thank you so much to everyone who has made this possible, and we’re only just beginning!!! ☀️ ✈️

✈️ Took Sebi to the RAF Museum… now he thinks he’s qualified to fly a fighter jet. 😂

Me: “We’re here to learn about aviation.”

Sebi: “Can I fly one?”

Me: “Let’s start with the science.”

Sebi: “Can it go supersonic?” 💀🚀

😂 From aerodynamics to jet engines, SENDminds is proving that learning is a lot more fun when you get out there and explore.

Some kids collect toys. Mine collects questions that require a NASA budget to answer. 🤣

Back in July we stopped at the @rafmuseum Midlands so going down to Heathrow on Monday we thought we’d stop off at the London site.

Both sites are free and have a wide variety of aircraft - you do pay for parking separately!

We loved the London site, the aircraft on display are great and it’s a lot bigger than what we thought. The park is aviation themed (couldn’t get any footage as it was quite busy!)

There’s some interactive bits for the kids which our little one enjoyed but to be honest he just loves looking at the aircraft and listening to the information that’s available.

We did go in the cafe for a drink and it was a lovely space!

We’d definitely stop here again on our way down and would highly recommend ✈️

The RAF Spitfires are taking on the RAF Museum Red Arrow Challenge to help raise funds for the RAF Museum RAF Museum.

The money raised will allow the museum to continue collecting, preserving, and sharing the remarkable stories of the Royal Air Force, including those of the Red Arrows and the Spitfires.

The lads from the 7s team will be aiming to collectively run and/or bike 7777km from now until the 30th November. Please follow their journey, share their progress and donate anything big or small.
