FROM THE CLASSROOM TO THE FOOD TRUCK

Career Shop DC invited Corey Knight, owner and operator of Community Cafe Express, to Dunbar High School to give our students a firsthand look at entrepreneurship and what it really takes to own and operate a business.

Corey shared his experience as an entrepreneur, talked about the work that happens behind the scenes, and gave students an opportunity to learn directly from someone who has turned his ideas into a working business.

But Career Shop DC wanted our students to do more than just hear about it. To give them a better idea of the food truck business in action, they told him to PULL UP.

CSDC provided free lunch for the students from Community Cafe Express, giving them a chance to see the experience from conversation to customer service. 🍽️

A business lesson they could hear, see, and taste. 😋

One of the things I never want to take for granted is someone’s time.

On Juneteenth, there were countless events happening across the city. The fact that someone chose to spend part of their day with us, experience what we were building, and then take the time to tell that story means more than they’ll probably ever know.

That’s why we do this! Our goal has never been to just host an event. It’s to create experiences that make people think differently, dream bigger, build stronger, and leave believing that what’s possible for them is bigger than what they walked in believing.

If we can be the bridge that helps someone get over the hump, start the business, buy the home, invest in themselves, or simply take that next step they’ve been putting off, then we’ve done what we set out to do.

A special thank you @kls.imagephotos for featuring us in your July issue and for taking the time to capture the heart of what we were trying to accomplish. We truly appreciate you shining a light on the work and the people behind it.

To everyone who showed up, volunteered, sponsored, spoke, and believed in the vision, thank you. We don’t take any of it lightly.

Year 4 reminded us why this work matters. Now we’re already planning for Year 5, a milestone year for Generational Wealth Weekend. We’re going to be even more intentional about creating meaningful programming, stronger connections, and experiences that continue making an impact long after the event ends.

The work continues🤞🏿
