An important part of the early childhood years is learning how to identify and deal with emotions. These two picture books and game are excellent ways for caregivers to facilitate that!

😡 In ANGRY ME by @sandravfeder & @rahele_studio, a young girl explores what makes her feel angry, and what she can do when she feels angry, like communicating. But sometimes angry feelings make it hard to communicate, or it’s impossible to communicate. Lots of times anger is portrayed negatively, but anger can be an important emotion to feel, so it’s important for kids to learn when to be angry, and when and how to communicate to help those angry feelings. This book is on the #bookstagang_bestof2022 final list!

🧘‍♀️ MY ZOO: A BOOK OF FEELINGS by David Griswold & @elizareisfeldart is a bookstagang nominee. This fun picture book compares emotions to different animals. It’s a fun way to practice emotions with kids! This was an award submission.

😊 MY FEELINGS BINGO is our most played game of the year. It’s super fun and easily adaptable to a large group of players, or only 2!

• The God of Rainbows
On November 16 2022, the 9 year old Kian Pirfalak was shot and killed by the Iranian security forces in Izeh (Khuzestan) while sitting in his parents’ car.

In a video that was released immediately after his murder, referring to a poem from a school book, he begins presenting one of his self-made boats with “in the name of rainbow God”.

In the video, Kian tests his boat that is made of ice cream sticks and a rubber band in a flat bowl of water. The boat passes the performance exam successfully. “From this we conclude that this works,”says Kian.

This phrase quickly became a new slogan of the revolution. It is repeated by demonstrators in the streets and in graffiti. The slogan stresses that every new act against the regime works.

In the memory of Kian, various visual artists express condolences to the tragedy through typography and recreation of inspiring elements in the released video. Rainbow as a phenomenon and his boat as an object replace the tragic image of him shot dead in an effort to never let go of his memory.

Kian’s body on ice
In some cases, security forces steal the bodies of dead protesters and bury them secretly to prevent any funeral gatherings. In order to not let this happen, Kian’s family kept the boy’s body on ice in their apartment for the night before the funeral, refusing to keep it in the morgue out of fear that security forces would take their child's body away.

The ice and frozen elements in some of the posters related to Kian represent this fact.

“In the name of God of rainbows 🌈🌈🌈“
Kian Pirfalak was a 9 year old Iranian boy from the city of Izeh in the Khuzestan Province. Kian was shot dead by the regime forces when he was in the car with his dad and his little brother during the latests protests in Iran.
There are multiple videos of Kian that his mom shared that shows his interest in building things and experimenting his ideas. In the video shown on the second slide, he is testing the boat that he has built for a competition. Kian starts his experiment by saying “In the name of God of rainbows 🌈 “. Because of this video, many people have been building paper or wooden boats in the memory of Kian.
We know we cannot match the enthusiasm of his beautiful soul, but we will keep saying his name by building as many little boats as we can in the memory of Kian and other kids that have lost their lives.

I brought some super cool picture books with me to a Tom Fruin stained glass house instillation. The books radiant as much light and joy as the house! They look great in front of the wonderful new White Plains, NY murals too!
