back and forth

a collaboration of creativity by
Ginger Huebner and Ralston Fox Smith

A year and a half ago they decided to create together at Ginger’s studio with collage, pastel and pencil as the chosen mediums.

Working on multiple pieces at first, exchanging them periodically throughout the session, an openness to merely explore was the genesis of an exciting collaboration that continues to this day.

Every piece started as a sheet of white paper with no notion of what it might become, each input affecting the next. Whether “taking turns” on the same table with one or more works, or sending them back and forth from Asheville to New Hampshire while Fox was north, the connection through creative expression culminated in a unique exploratory body of work.

“Back and Forth” explores the shared creativity of artists and friends Ginger Huebner and Ralston Fox Smith.

What began a year and a half ago as an open-ended studio experiment—using collage, pastel, and pencil—grew into an ongoing collaboration. Working across multiple pieces, exchanging and revisiting them over time (from Asheville to New Hampshire and back), each mark shaped the next. Every work started as a blank page, evolving through trust, curiosity, and connection.

Join us for the opening at the studio:

Friday, May 22 | 5:30–8:30pm
573 Fairview Road, Suite 3, Asheville

Had a sweet time in the studio with @ralstonfoxsmith this past weekend processing all the many layers of life.

We created individual works this time - just like old times in our RAD studios years ago.

Thankful for such a powerful friendship and the time and space to create together.

Things I was pondering in creating this piece:
✨Embracing the mess
✨Letting go of what is not in my control
✨Releasing the need to rush
✨Truly trusting myself and my rhythm

Trust your Rhythm.

Incredibly grateful for a sweet day ringing in my 50th year on this earth yesterday. Thank you to all for so many messages, comments and calls - I was able to enjoy a peaceful morning paddle, have lunch with my boy, chat with my girl who just finished up her final crit (and comes home Wednesday), create some art that will be heading to @ralstonfoxsmith to add his magic, and have dinner with Scott taking in the breathtaking view from one of his houses under construction. I’ve decided this whole year is a celebration. More adventures to come…Let’s go 5-0!

We hit the ground running this week - art deliveries, installations, and just enough caffeine to sleep the sparkle alive 💪🏼✨

Between Asheville and Anderson, we’ve been curating a STUNNING new project (tat we might be able to talk about soon 👀), plus welcoming bold new works by Ralston Fox @ralstonfoxsmith

Everything is soulful, sophisticated with that unique hint of quirk - just how we like it 🥰🎨
