Another ‘Bits and Pieces’ market done and dusted! 🎄🎅🏽🎄

Huge thanks to everyone who made it happen — and to all who stopped by our tables to enjoy the burst of colour, admire our beautiful hummingbirds, and support us with your kind words and purchases. 💕

Special shoutout to Vanessa for creating this wonderful community space each year, giving local artisans the chance to shine and shoppers the joy of finding truly local gifts. 🙌

And an extra special thanks to my superstar assistant, Alana @bodyfrosting — your warmth, words, and all-around magic make every market day brighter. 🌸

Next stop: ISPS Christmas Market on 15th November!🎄✨

If you missed us at Bits and Pieces, our Diego Martin studio will be open by appointment soon (just as soon as we finish unpacking all those boxes! 😉).

What is a HUGE mistake that dog owners make?

Rewarding their dog's tantrum 🤦‍♂️

Here's a perfect example of what I'm talking about:

Daisy knows exactly what she's supposed to do...

Which is to go into a down on command.

However, she's trying to do a shortcut by just sitting.

And on top of that she's giving me lip by barking and demanding her treat 🫤.

Joke's on her, because I didn't give in.

And guess what, she realized that she has to do what I ASKED.

Not what she wants.

And you need to approach your dog's obedience with this mentality.

Don't give into your dog's demands when they haven't earned their reward.

They need to EARN their reward by doing what they asked.

Stay strong and your dog will start listening and doing the right thing just like Daisy!

I'm teaching Rachel how to fix her dog’s reactivity.

You want a dog that is neutral.

They should be indifferent to:

→ Dogs
→ People
→ Cars
→ Noise

It doesn’t matter.

The problem?

Her dog sees a dog = loses its mind.

Pulling. Barking. Frustration.
Because it can’t go say hi.

That’s not cute.
It’s reactivity.

And it NEEDS to stop!

So here’s what we did:

→ Dog appears
→ She reacts
→ I correct her
→ She stops
→ Makes eye contact
→ Now she gets praise and a reward

The dog learns:

“Seeing a dog doesn’t mean I get to party.”

The big win?

She looked at the dog.
Then chose to focus on Rachel.

That’s neutrality.

Let me say it again:

Your dog doesn’t need more friends.
They need clarity.
Structure.
Control.

You don’t fix reactivity by avoiding dogs.

You fix it by teaching how to behave around them.

Don’t wait for your dog's reactivity to become uncontrollable.

Fix it ASAP!

The nearest thing to being in Tobago (and as I write, it's sleeting and foul outside) is to bask in ANGEL IN TOBAGO which is warm, colourful and Caribbean from beginning to end.

Just a suggestion.

And thanks to @ralytt for her hand-modelling.

Thanks to the pioneering endeavours of Rachel @ralytt, the first copy of Angel in Tobago has arrived on the eponymous island!

(And, no, I'm not in Tobago, whatever Facebook tells you. The book is.)
