My 🦬 hunt part 2.
This bison will feed my family and friends time and time again. Just thinking back on the few days we spent on the prairie brings a smile to my face. Not everyone understands hunting and that’s ok. But for me hunting will always hold a special place in my heart.

After spending all day Thursday chasing bison across the @americanprairie we knew what we had to do Friday morning. Before getting to this position, a long hike through wind swept bluffs and creek bottom in sub zero temperatures was required of us. Shortly after a loud crisp shot rang through the air, I felt a warm embrace from behind and reassuring words from my hunting partners. This hunt had finally come to an end. Emotions were impossible to hold back as I witnessed this animal finally come to rest. I will never forget this hunt. Her spirit will live on through all who were present.

What does “collaborative conservation” mean to you? 🦫

This summer, we shared a blog regarding beavers and collaborative conservation at work for game species (check it out at NWF.org/outdoors). The piece was written by Shelby Weigand, NWF’s Senior Coordinator of Riparian Connectivity.

Today we are checking in with Morgan Marks, the North-Central/Eastern Montana Field Representative for @mtwildlife

Watch. Listen. Get engaged!!

“As a hunter and an angler, I know the value of collaborative conservation projects happening across the state of Montana.

My name is Morgan Marks and I’ve been involved with the @nationalwildlife and the National Wild Turkey Federation’s projects with the BLM across the state of Montana. Working to restore riparian connectivity in the Sagebrush steppe through low tech process based restoration projects.

These projects are also known as Beaverdam analogues, where the goal is to mimic the wisdom and knowledge of the beavers. Not necessarily bringing beavers back to the landscape, but mimicking the ecological services that beavers provide to retain water on the landscape later in the season as long as it can, recharging groundwater storage, restoring woody vegetation and groundcover for wildlife, and building a more resilient landscape in the face of an ever-changing climate…”

WE DID IT!

The Freeflow Foundation has made our first Impact Report🧡
—————————————————————————————
The Freeflow Foundation was born in 2020 as a way to amplify the voices and stories of marginalized communities by breaking down barriers and creating sustainable pathways forward to make @freeflowinstitute more accessible to individuals of all backgrounds.

We see a need for a new way of addressing conservation - and it all has to do with the voices we listen to and the stories we tell.
🌿
In 2022, we supported 15 students through scholarships, raised $5,820 towards our community scholarship fund and offered 4 unique scholarship offerings with support from @americanrivers and @americanwhitewater

We immersed ourselves in wild landscapes and on wild rivers, we shared our lived experiences and we supported our communities through vulnerable moments.

And we thank our community for supporting each and every one of these individuals so that they can share their stories.
✨
In 2023, we want to do more — so we have big aspirations for The Freeflow Foundation. We hope you will continue to support us and spread the word to others to make these dreams happen!

Here is a sneak peak of our Impact Report, click the link in our bio to see the all the work we did this year and what we aspire to do in the years to come!

Collaborative conservation takes many hands, and we're all about partnering with other organizations, groups, and individuals to push good work forward. Our North-Central Field Representative, Morgan Marks, has a unique role as she is MWF's first dual hire with our partner and affiliated organization, @nationalwildlife (NWF). For the past two summers, she has been coordinating, recruiting and managing volunteers, and we're excited to share her newest blog written for NWF with all of you! Link in bio.

Life is so weird and so am I.

Fun fact: Google says 40% of the activity on the internet is fake. Apparently 55% of IG accounts use fraud/bots/fake followers and 45% of accounts aren’t real. Moral of the story: IG isn’t that cool okay that’s all bye.

Dare | Montana 2022 is a wrap!

Beyond proud of all the Darlings who truly showed up for themselves in profound ways, and grateful for my crew who guided, inspired and helped create a safe space for us all.

I’ve been leading retreats @ninequartercircle since 2017, and have had the privilege of working with the Kelsey Family, who’s continued support of Dare to Detour means the world to me. Dare | Montana wouldn’t be Dare without the Nine Quarter Circle Ranch❤️

There’s so much more to come in 2023. To be the first to learn about all the Detours planned for next year, hop on my email list - link in bio. I can’t wait to Detour with you!
