Seeking beauty. Illuminating beauty. Reflecting beauty. Capturing beauty. In EVERYTHING.

THIS is what I do. Even in the mundane moments of everyday life. I don’t know why but if we look to Jungian philosophy beauty is only beneficial to the extent that it aptly captures an inner experience.

Doing Angels… in Coffee Beans ✨

The first time I visited a tea or coffee plantation, I was in an area in Karnataka India called Coorg. An avid coffee drinker at the time, I realized upon arrival and being served a cup of coffee, that I had not thought of the drink once, in my month’s stay so far (!!!)

My Coorg trip marked my first adventure outside of the City of Mysore, where I had been studying yoga and enjoying the life changing effects of pilgrimage. I had dumped so many of my habits, including this particular ritual beverage of coffee. And felt GREAT>

Coorg is sometimes referred to as “Scottish India,” with its emerald green rolling hills and (no doubt) an allude to (or opinions of) the colonizing Scotts that cultivated the craft of the many Tea Plantations that emerged on Indian soil.

The place is spectacular and gives one a deep sense of replenishment just by being there. Depending on where you stand or walk, you will see stretches of paddy fields, rolling blue hills and pristine rainforests.

I was invited onto a rooftop early one morning at the coffee plantation I was staying at. It was a humble place and the people were extraordinarily kind- especially to me as I was traveling solo. The rooftop to my surprise, was almost completely covered in small, cowrie shaped beans. I watched as the worker spread the beans evenly, with the beautiful sunrise emerging from the hills in the background. When he saw me, he invited me to walk on the beans. Although he did not speak English, he indicated that it was good for the body, acupressure healing through the feet.

Perhaps it was the essence of this beautifully charged landscape, or the power of kindness I felt from being in the company of such sweet souls. Or perhaps it was due to the culmination of my practices ending here, in Coorg before heading home, where the juxtaposition gave me a window into feeling so completely WONDERFUL…that I had to ask him (gestured really) “Do you ever do “angels” in the beans??”

✨Spring Navaratri✨

Hey there Yogins & Plant Lovers… 🌸 lt is time ✨

We see (if we are paying attention), that the Spirit of the Earth is initiating a new season. This juncture has been marked by the ancients, to be celebrated /honored on this No Moon day (amavasya) called #navaratri.✨

Flowing like a stream of wisdom from the practitioners of the Himalayas, Navaratri gives ode to the transformative power of Nature.✨

For 9 nights, if you wish, you can align with the power of the Divine Feminine in 3 main Archetypes. Traditionally they are Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati. You can also bring forward your own inspiration and connection to these ancient Goddesses, if you are from another tradition. For your ease I have listed very basic definitions of each, which you can sit with, contemplate or meditate on, for three days each during this time.✨

Durga: Fortitude and protection, The power of Refuge✨

What practices, plants or areas in nature give your refuge?✨

Lakshmi: Health and Abundance, The power of prosperity

What actions can you take to feel healthier? Prosperous?✨

Saraswati: Wisdom and Fine Arts: The power of skillful knowledge

What practices, thoughts and company can you keep to help raise you into a next level of consciousness?✨

Spring Navaratri is about renewal. It’s like shedding the old skin or giving away items and actions that no longer serve you-and yet may be exactly what someone else needs. It is about sowing the seeds that you wish to nurture while continuing to rest. This “new” rest though, is a bit different than winter’s rest. Strengthen your belly fire, digest the past and be present in the moment. Take small actions of deep nourishment, and gentle cleansing. And most of all, #takecare.

Spring Navaratri also calls us to recommit to our values and set the internal compass for this season. Get those rose colored goggles on yo! ✨

Tomorrow I will share some plants that support me during this beautiful time. For now, I aim to unplug from technology as that to me, is one area needing “cleansing” for my mind and body to be steady + strong.✨

What are your practices for Navaratri, #Equinox, and New Moons in March?✨

The ancient sages teach that yoga is a practice that meets the needs of a person, to bring them from one place (exactly where they’re at in mind, body and soul) into a better place. ✨

Yoga as a system can do this for a society.✨

Yoga can meet the needs of today and bring us [collectively] into a better place. ✨

What we need to look at is: What kinds of practices are we doing? What is the language that we’re using? What are our intentions? Is it working?✨

Yoga HAS ALWAYS BEEN an adaptive practice to meet the times. ✨

The old view was to just “waking up Kundalini” where the practice is stimulating, powerful. It was to transcend. Leave the body, be “above the world.”✨

We don’t need that right now. That’s not the yoga we need. ✨

We need to apply yoga in a deeper, EMBODIED, holistic fashion (not extracted!) such as orienting the practice with the Science of Breath (breath training, prana illuminating) and how this supports the body and mind via the nervous system. ✨

How this done regularly, supports us so that we can support and serve others, and #nature.✨

Our yoga doesn’t necessarily need to be that stimulating to do that work at this time. Our yoga now needs to calm us down, hold us, incubate and integrate us. Our Yoga should be in service to this planet. Our Yoga should be in service to our souls and the souls of all the future generations coming in.✨

The Sage Apprenticeship 2023 Foundational training is about to close. Join us now if you don’t want to wait until 2025 for these teachings✨

Chef Delvin, the BBQ pit master from Kansas City, and I made magic in Vegas last weekend ! We were hired to cook for 50 people and there was up to 230 people eating food. We cooked at David Copperfield’s old house so there was still some residual magic laying around ! It was such a pleasure meeting so many amazing and impactful humans while feeding their minds and tummies. Food is medicine, but community is magic. #foodismedicine #community #vegas #magic #bbq #vegasbabyvegas
