At 1856-Culinary Residence, every service is an opportunity to inspire the next generation of hospitality.✨

As a teaching restaurant, we bring Auburn University’s Horst Schulze School of Hospitality Management students alongside our culinary and service professionals, where they refine their craft through hands-on experience.

For our guests, it is an invitation to enjoy exceptional dining while becoming part of that education. For our students, it is where passion takes shape, one plate and one guest at a time.

Reserve your table and experience our mission firsthand. A person in a kitchen holds a tray with desserts topped with strawberries and chocolate sticks. Another person is in the background, both wearing black uniforms and caps with "1855" on them. The kitchen has a stainless steel counter and several appliances.

We are still thinking about the afternoon we spent together at our Taste of Seoul Tea on Thach!🍵

Each course offered a beautiful expression of Korean flavors, paired with tea and shared around the table. Thank you to everyone who joined us at 1856- Culinary Residence. It was a pleasure to host you.🥂

A culinary experience worth traveling for. ✨

We’re honored to be featured in The Local Palate’s “7 Grade A Cooking Classes in the South,” highlighting the hands-on culinary experiences available as part of a group stay at The Laurel Hotel & Spa.

Through our connection to Auburn University’s Tony & Libba Rane Culinary Science Center, groups can explore the art of handmade pasta or discover a new appreciation for wine, all guided by expert instruction. These experiences offer a memorable way to connect during a retreat, celebration or group getaway.

Thank you, The Local Palate, for sharing this special part of The Laurel experience! 🤍

Hans van der Reijden, founder and CEO of Ithaka Hospitality Partners, calls tourism an economic “super booster.” The dollars visitors spend in Auburn-Opelika help create opportunities for local businesses to grow, invest, and bring new experiences to the community.

For Hans, the impact is simple: tourism helps make Auburn-Opelika a great place to visit and an even better place to call home.
