Who here remembers ZooBooks from when you were little? 🙋🏻‍♀️📚🦓
.
.
My kids have a current subscription to these and love them! This squirrelly issue is one of our recent favorites. ZooBooks are the perfect little dose of animal info that arrives regularly. Highly recommend for elementary kiddos. With the holidays coming up, this is a gift they can look forward to receiving for months to come! 🧡📚🐿

The edition of @rangerrickmags featuring my illustration is now published! Thrilled to have been commissioned by the National Wildlife Federation (@nationalwildlife) to create art for this historic magazine! The first issue of RR was published in 1967, with the goal of helping children get excited about environmental conservation.

Magazines are a great way to get/keep kids reading. Short articles give a sense of quick accomplishment. Not to mention they are learning about the world around them, but shhh! We don't want to scare them away. 😆

The juvenile magazines are located at the end of the picturebook collection (where the toys used to be), in plastic drawers. There are more than a dozen publications of Ranger Rick, National Geographic Kids, and Ladybug magazine to browse with new editions added monthly.

A fun springtime snack! 🌷☀️ Looks like the robin got the worm😉

This treat was inspired by our Ranger Rick Jr magazine and the bird activity we did recently☺️ (see my post from a couple days ago!)🐦

🐦FOR THE BIRDS🐦

My boys love watching the birds in our backyard, and my 4yo especially loves seeing robins during our neighborhood walks. So when our @rangerrickmags magazine arrived with a feature on robins, I knew we had to do something fun!

♻️Tiny scoop is recycled from a baby formula container. Small bowl is a recycled diced pear container.
🌿Pinecones were collected on one of our “nature walks” around the neighborhood. We will be slathering them with peanut butter, rolling them in birdseed & setting them out for our backyard birds!
🐦Birds are vintage😉 from my beanie babies collection (thanks to my parents for storing them in the attic all these years!)
📚Book “Birdsongs” was a library find & one we will definitely check out again! It has lots of great birds (most of which we have where we live) & also has a counting element, which is fun if your little one is learning their numbers🔢

Bird egg nesting activity

This morning we turned a page from our Ranger Rick Jr. magazine into a fun activity!

We dyed “eggs” (dry white beans) to match the different types of bird eggs. Then we made nests in a muffin pan and matched the eggs to the birds.

They had so much fun shaking the beans with food coloring in these cute carrots from the dollar tree.
