Last Halloween, I had the pleasure of visiting @burnt.umber.oc a coffee shop that I have been obsessed with since the pandemic.

My friends and I hopped in a car and drove down from Anaheim to visit this particular spot spot and it had all the Gothic spooky vibes that was perfect for Halloween.

Omg, still pinching myself! 😭✨ In honor of release day for Kiss of the Black Flame, I got to meet the absolute sweetest @helenscheuerer (FINALLY! *squee*) and the lovely @kfbreene this past Sunday at @bookpassage! 📚❤️I always get so nervous and my brain completely goes blank when I meet authors, but they were both so incredibly kind! 🥺👉👈 Thank you both so much for bringing your magic to our little slice of heaven here in Northern California. We never take it for granted and feel truly blessed to meet our absolute favorites. 🥹🌸✨ Happy release week! 🥳🔥

Happy release day to @helenscheuerer for Kiss of the Black Flame @atriabooks

On Sunday, I had the pleasure of meeting Helen for the book tour event hosted by @bookpassage. It was moderated by author @kfbreene

The event started off with questions by K. F. where we got to learn about its characters, Helene’s writing process and more. My favorite moment is finding out how Helen wanted to have a slightly more “soft” MMC (that still had muscles) that we would all drool over.

We had to keep things spoiler free because the book didn’t release until today, but we had a lot of fun regardless. The event was videotaped so participants watching could ask questions along with event attendees. Then when everything was done, we could get our signed books personalized and take pictures with the authors.

Overall it was a good time. I got to see my bookish friends and got another book that I am very excited to add to my library. I also got to visit a new restaurant I haven’t been to and I got to bring out one of my favorite bags.

Today I spent a wonderful afternoon at the @filoliestate to see the @fleurdevilles exhibit of the period drama @gildedagehbo

The Fleurs de Villes' THE GILDED AGE exhibition at California's Filoli Historic House & Garden reimagines HBO's TV show with couture mannequins all crafted entirely from fresh flowers and foliage. This exhibit ia currently running September 9-18.

So, hurry quick if your someone that loves visiting gardens and a bit of whimsy, because this is the event for you.

Marian Keyes and the Politics of Commercial Fiction
by Maria Butler

Marian Keyes is one of Ireland’s most important fiction authors but is often not celebrated as such. Keyes’ novels draw on the author’s trademark charm, wit, and pathos, yet her girly packaging and light-hearted marketing resulted in far too little critical attention and celebration compared to her literary contemporaries.

Focusing on her depiction of three significant Irish loci of shame: addiction, depression, and abortion, Maria Butler draws upon Keyes’ novels, essays, interviews, and online posts to demonstrate how her writings serve as a counterpoint to culturally prevalent, stigmatising depictions of people coping with addiction and mental illness. This groundbreaking study seeks to challenge the existing narrative on Keyes and opens a window to her extraordinary writings for future readers.

Recently, I had the pleasure of taking a cocktail class at @redwoodempirewhiskeybar.

This was my first time attending an event there and I had the best time. It was their inaugural cocktail making class and they chose to create a Manhattan.

The class was relaxed, fun and very informative. We got to learn about the history of this cocktail while creating different versions of it. We also were able to experience tasting alternative spirits that would accompany the Redwood Giant Rye Whiskey (the main ingredient).

There was also some delicious charcuterie for us to nosh on between sips and we got to take home a beautiful jigger that was decorated in the Redwood Empire motif.

This is the first of their cocktail making class series and if you see another one posted on their website, I would highly recommend attending one. 10/10.

One of the highlights of my recent trip to London was the Marilyn Monroe exhibit at the portrait gallery.

This curated exhibit showcased photos and artwork that honored the late Marilyn Monroe. She would have been 100 years old.

Gone too soon.

@maisonassouline you were so much fun to visit.

The vibes were great: the cocktails were delicious and the decor was 🤌🏻I only wish that we had cooler weather because it was brutally hot when I came to visit.

if you’re ever in London and wish to visit a beautiful bookstore and have some amazing cocktails, then this is a place to visit.

Word of advice highly recommended that you make a reservation before going.
