REWIND | Ravioli Biceps
•
On August 27th, 2018, 5 years ago this week, @raviolibiceps walked into the gym, did his usual detailed warmup of 100 pushups, 100 pullups, and a fingerboard workout before setting up his camera, pointed at the Moonboard. It had been a year since he started climbing on the Moonboard, and he had obsessively worked his way through the benchmarks, nearly in order of difficulty. And on this day, he pulled on and finished the final benchmark of the 2016 set, a V13 set by Daniel Woods called Black Beauty.

At the time he wasn’t the celebrity he’s become, well, except for in the Moonboard community. They all knew. Now, well deserved, everyone does, and it’s been so fun to watch him embrace the spotlight. That kind of dedication is rare, and it doesn’t really matter if it’s indoors or outdoors. So now, 5 years later, almost to the date that he became the undisputed king of the Moonboard, we are REWINDING to one of my favorite conversations about process, identity, and using a tool to its absolute fullest with Ravioli Biceps.

Happy New Year’s Eve MoonBoarders! For anyone in need of inspiration for the new year, this throwback to one of our fave MoonBoard posts from MoonBoard royalty @raviolibiceps 👑 should help.

“A year ago I broke my foot and didn’t climb for almost 3 months. This was the longest break I had taken from climbing in the past 12 years. Shortly after breaking my foot I turned 30 and was convinced my hard climbing days were behind me. I was working 50-60 hour weeks and didn’t have as much training time as I did in the past. I used the Moonboard to help me get back into climbing, and even did my first couple sessions with one foot in a sneaker because I couldn’t fit into a climbing shoe. 297 benchmarks later and I still can’t believe I climbed this one. Thanks to everyone for the supportive messages along the way, it’s awesome to connect with so many people over a 40° training wall!”

Moonboard Royalty on the show today 👑👑👑 the one and only... Mr Ravioli Biceps (@raviolibiceps). Most of you probably already know him for his impressive and focused Moonboard achievements over on his Instagram.

👉Ravioli has completed 413 of the benchmarks Moonboard 2016 set up 😵‍ and most of the 2019 set up, placing him among the elite. Ravioli also has his fair share of outdoor ticks, with grades up to V14, so he is definitely very capable in both formats of bouldering.

👉We will be keeping Ravioli's anonymity, but don't worry as there is much more to Ravioli than his nickname. So sit down, or if you're training, prepare your headphones, because we will learn all about this veteran of system boarding and what his approach to projecting is like.

Topics covered:
✅Why the name RavioliBicepts?
✅When did his focus on MoonBoarding start?
✅What Ravioli's warm-up and projecting looks like
✅Does he go back to old projects?
✅What he has gained from being so focused

The Moonboard (or any board really) can be a great way to train or have fun. They teach us to try HARD and that’s key!

It seems like the 2019 set has been all the rage lately. @raviolibiceps vouches.
