Tomorrow, @elijahrock, a Senior Atlantic Fellow for Equity in Brain Health @gbhi_fellows, will launch his album Memories Unleashed at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM).

This album is a remarkable collection of world-class jazz music and live performances by Elijah Rock, interwoven with discussions on brain health awareness, a deeper understanding of Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and related disorders. Experts from @gbhi_fellows and UCSF’s @ucsfmemoryandagingcenter will contribute to these conversations. The event will pay tribute to legendary musicians and feature a special appearance by Antonia Bennett in honor of her late father, Tony Bennett, who bravely battled Alzheimer’s disease.

Elijah’s live jazz performances are electrifying, and his music is a joy to experience inviting us to dance, reminisce, and cherish moments of love, comfort, and resilience with our loved ones. Inspired by his own journey navigating his father’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis, Elijah continues to use his platform to entertain, inspire, and raise awareness about the disease.

I am truly honored to have collaborated with him by creating the official album cover for Memories Unleashed. This collaboration is a testament to the invaluable knowledge and resources shared with us through GBHI (@gbhi_fellows). As artists, we remain committed to shining a light on the experiences of caregivers, individuals living with Alzheimer’s, and those facing cognitive challenges. We see you, and Memories Unleashed is for you.

See you all tomorrow 😊✨💫❤️

MURAL AT AGAPE ACADEMY IN ACCRA GHANA🇬🇭

It was an incredible experience collaborating with everyone (the children, Atlantic fellows, Academy staff, local artists, and GBHI faculty) to transform one of the walls at Agape Academy’s playground in Accra, Ghana.

Watching everyone actively participate in bringing this mural to life was truly inspiring. This collective effort took place during our #GBHILeadership2024 development week in Ghana, resulting in a stunning piece of art that reflects the spirit of unity, community and creativity.

A special thank you to the team in the first slide and to @kingsleydeffor for the fantastic collaboration. This project beautifully embodies the concept of radical collaboration, one of the key lessons from the development week. Here’s to many more meaningful partnerships! 💫🤗

I am often asked what I do when I am not on a film set. I sleep a lot, bathe even more, and DRAW sometimes.

- Frame one and two are ‚Banana fiber‘ mosaic pieces
- Three and four are ‘passion fruit seeds’ stitched pieces

Over the weekend, we hosted the 7th Edition of our Quarterly Open Studio sessions, marking two years since the inception of Open Studio at Kiggundu Art Studio.

Themed “Joy of Creation,” the event featured our 2024 Apprentices delving deeply into their creations and engaging guests in their creative processes.

Guests experimented with painting using coffee, a technique pioneered by @journey.man_24, who works with different hues of coffee mixed with water to create artwork.

@kabeya_ilunga, on the other hand, guided guests through his process of using charcoal and graphite on paper, showcasing his remarkable pieces from his current Afrocentric collection.

Art students from our neighboring school, Bankhill College, also presented their projects, led by their art teacher and our student ambassador, Noeline Nantale.

We extend our gratitude to all the guests who took the time to join us at this networking event. It was truly a joy to see everyone engaged in various activities.

@thegreatimagining Art doesn’t exist in a vacuum. The arts are an essential part of our social and personal world. @gsahwproject focuses on the value of the ars for health but health involves social, spiritual, moral, psychological and creative wellbeing not just the lack of illness. The MIND FRAMES project hopes to address the widest conceptions of health. Let’s look at the four parts of the project:

MIND: Our arts intervention in schools for refugee children deliberately starts with children’s minds. We draw them towards thinking about their inner world - naming and talking about the common and fundamental beliefs that can so easily unite and include all humans – (values like respect, community, friendship, family, peace, love, faith and hope).

Glad to have participated @gsahwproject @kiggunduartstudio were we talked about our MINDFRAMES project as part of the spotlighted projects within the week.
as we plan on the roll out phases of the project:

An experience of what we stand for as the TGI Africa is integrating art in education in the face of displaced young refugee children whose education has been affected by climate change.

We are Using imagination to empower and create hope and resilience within climate spaces and climate change education but most importantly in the face of displaced children.

We need collaborations around this project and we hope to engage with educators and more than 200 children with an aim of instilling hope and intergrating art into there curriculum.
