BSC x Ahikāroa x Natives

For people by people! 🫀

I know when we had to shut our doors over at He Kura we had to reflect on that moment what it brought and what we had learnt!

Grateful for the hands that continue to guide us and support our kaupapa to keep doing the mahi no matter what we want to Mihi to the Puckeys for holding it down in your garage allowing our kids to continue to train and come together yous did that and made sure it continued.

This has been in the works since the last building closed and to have our wāhine builders come in and love in this place again really solidified our kaupapa and why we do what we do!

For all our kaupapa all our Kāinga all our Natives kids all our whānau and our community 🔥

Built for people and by people always 🫱🏾‍🫲🏼

What an awesome kaupapa to be a part of this weekend.🙌🏻

A huge mihi to the wahine of Native Sports for sending the karanga out to us and allowing our Ngā Waka Kōtui whanau to come in and tautoko your kaupapa.

There’s something pretty special about seeing a kaupapa created for wahine, led by wahine and all about empowering wahine. Hearing about the mahi you all do through your wananga, coming together, learning new skills and literally building cabins for marae around Te Tai Tokerau is pretty mean.

I think it also hit home for us because in our Nga Waka Kotui whanau we have some bloody strong wahine too. Wahine who lead, organise, teach, tautoko and keep our kaupapa moving.

So this weekend few of our tane Toronge, Piri, Hami, Hauraki, Ngarimu and Pawi were exactly where they belonged, in the kitchen 😂😂

Ko te mana wahine ki mua, ko te ringa tane ki te kihini 😂

Nga mihi nui ki nga wahine o Native Sports.🙌🏻😎

“Whiria te tāngata”

No better way to wrap up the wāhanga than hanging out and weaving pōtae with Nanny Kumeroa 🤍

It’s the full circle effect! These ākonga have learnt karakia, learnt to hoe waka, learnt to swim, learnt to dive, learnt to harvest kuta, learnt to hang and dry their kuta, and now have learnt to weave their own pōtae!

This has been an amazing end-to-end journey of reconnecting with our tūpuna through the mātauranga of this precious taonga.
Blessed and grateful beyond measure.

Nanny will be ringing in hot for all the kūta harvests, what a privilege 🌿

Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou katoa:
