Searching for poison frogs in the jungles of Colombia! 🇨🇴 We saw some incredible frogs this day and got some great photos. These are a couple Oophaga sylvatica “Koi” that we found! Out in the jungle with beautiful frogs, amazing views, and great people… doesn’t get much better than this! 😎

An in situ, of a stunning Great Basin rattlesnake. Catching the last rays of sun, hoping to also catch a meal. I spotted this individual in ambush about 100 feet from our camp. We were lucky enough to encounter this snake in situ 3 times in different areas twice in ambush and once on the crawl over a 24 hour period. The jade palm pit viper (Bothriechis thalassinus) first entered my reality as a pipe dream shared with my best friend. Somehow, through some amalgamation of serendipity and magic that I will never understand, this snake has become the motor of my life.

My friends in Honduras all joke that this exquisitely colored serpent enchanted us and compels us to do its bidding. Fooled us into servitude, perhaps. Silly humans. Make some reserves, teach some students, protect some mountains and streams and liquidambar trees and orchids and salamanders and quetzals and tree frogs, and so on. All for a snake?

Maybe it’s the spell talking, but I’d reply, “For what else?”

For the @HonduHerp team, #WorldSnakeDay is a whole lot more than a day to celebrate snakes. It’s a day to remember why we all do what we do.
