#moviemonday Killers of the Flower Moon debuted at Cannes in May 2023. The Martin Scorsese film starred Lily Gladstone, Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro and was nominated for 10 Academy Awards but didn't win any. As a banjo fan, I was excited that two instruments from the @banjomuseum in Oklahoma City were used in the film, and fiddler @raynagellert was recruited to put together a band that appeared on screen and on the soundtrack. I wrote a blog post about it back when the movie came out (link in bio). I took advantage of the recent @criterioncollection flash sale to get this at 50% off. #bluraycollection #moviecollection #filmcollection #criterioncollection

We were first introduced to this one from our pals, @themcmillanscampboys on a balmy night in August, playing tunes and smoking darts on the porch - as one does.

While this song is attributed to Clyde Davenport, we took inspiration from @raynagellert for this here rendition.

Enjoy!

Here's a photo of a little corner I've devoted to the Bucolics Project (book by @illuminatedpress, vase by @hanniegoldart, frames by me, pinecones from one of the oldest living trees in the world.) to let you know that BP is now live on all streaming platforms* (minus one).

Bucolics remains one of the most incredible projects I've ever been a part of, and I am forever in debt to all of the people who made it possible. The musicians, Maurice's words, the engineering team, the artists, the supporters on kickstarter, the creation grant from @vtartscouncil. Thank you, all.

But don't take my word for it. Here's what somebody said recently:

"The transformation of these poems into their musical forms, fed by field recordings from across Appalachia and the creative alchemy of Brendan, Maurice, and their collaborators, is an example of everything I love about the living nature of language, music, deep roots, and strong wings."

*Except Spotify. Spotify are pricks. Don't support something that supports ice.

Playing along with @raynagellert on Ducks On The Millpond. It takes some serious focus to keep this groove locked in.

Pile in for a special online old-time fiddle workshop with Rayna Gellert! Rayna will be breaking down a cool Kentucky tune—Brushy Fork of John’s Creek—and using it as our jumping off point for more general fiddle discussion. The plan is for this to be fun for both old-time fiddlers AND old-time-curious players. To make it accessible for other flavors of fiddlers/violinists, we’ll be cross tuning to GDGD—instead of AEAE—so it’s not so scary.

The version Rayna will teach will be mostly based on Art Stamper’s.

📅 Sunday, February 8th: 2PM Eastern
🎻Open to all levels

A few tiny moments from our 2025. Yes, we did release an album back in April (!!)—which marked the end of the Dead Reckoning Records era. (Don’t worry, there will be more music!) But our year also involved LOTS of golf, plenty of wildlife, great visits with loved ones, and of course a heaping helping of concern for the ol’ USA. 🇺🇸👀 We are sending our very warmest wishes to you for a joyful, peaceful new year. See you in the future! 🥰🥳🎉🎊
