Pulling out some seriously incredible wines to make this the best celebration of Champagne that Toronto has ever seen. If you haven’t purchased your ticket yet, I would strongly suggest you get on it.

The second annual Champagne festival is now officially live. What makes me so proud to host this event is that it’s a true celebration of the wine region, and not just a promotion of the wonderful producers I’m lucky enough to work with. This will be the most holistically approached event with bottles available from some of the most allocated growers, and big houses alike. Thanks for making me feel like this was worth doing again. Toronto, an endless amount of gratitude 🙏

When a new producer pops onto the scene with loads of ambition and drive, their vision is typically not fully realized because of a lack of resources, time, and raw material. It’s not every day that you have someone as smart and ambitious as Hélène being able to hit the ground sprinting with none of those factors slowing her down. She has so much focus and intention and most importantly, the ability to be self critical. A lot of exploration that she is doing is not bound to the economics of needing to release every drop of wine she makes, which, in my opinion frees you from being good and allows you the potential to be great.

The day that @helenecharbaut released her first wines, I was visiting Champagne. I tried a bottle in Reims out of curiosity, as I never heard of the project before, and there was a good amount of excitement around town for the first release. I usually take a bottle home and sit with it, but I was compelled to open it immediately. I was absolutely blown away. Over the coming week the labels were flooding my newsfeed from other growers and people in the trade. They were completely sold out everywhere outside of the few bottles my friend Fabrice had set aside for me.

We travel more than most, and thats why we are so focused in just a few regions. But this is the joy of being flexible, and present in wine regions you work in. I’m really excited that I didn’t wait to see, and was able to meet on that same trip to understand more about what she was doing. This is truly the most exciting part of doing what we do, meeting incredible people whose story you feel the need to share.

We started this journey with @meanwhilewineinc 8 years ago as a wine bar in Hamilton, ON. By the time it opened we had a few months of fun before the pandemic happened and we locked the doors on that bar for good. I simply didn’t want to pivot into something that wasn’t us. We parted ways with that chapter and I started a wine club, and then an import agency, so I could do something more sustainable in an uncertain time.

We’ve accomplished a lot throughout the years with lots of changes along the way. Very happy with every hit we took to get where we are today. Growing our sales team to 9 people, being able to travel the world with them, and work with some of my favorite people and producers has been incredible. Thanks to everyone who has been a part of this whirlwind.

This past weekend we hosted our first annual “L’été du Champagne” to celebrate not only the amazing producers we work with, but the region as a whole. Bringing together multiple agencies to showcase the best of the best from small growers to the big houses that make Champagne the amazingly diverse place it is. It means so much to us to be able to share a small portion of what has made us all collectively fall in love with this incredible region. We hope you enjoyed yourself. Because we sure did!
