POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

These architecture projects challenge how we see the world. Meet the architects and designers of the future as their newest work comes together at the MA Architecture Work in Progress Show 2026 in the Studio Building at RCA Battersea from 22 to 24 January...

...and take a peek behind the doors of the world's no 1 university for art and design!

The research and experiments from our students will reveal a profound engagement with the urgent ecological and material realities of our time.

You’ll find projects exploring the deep ocean (ADS13), the nature of the 'wild' (ADS9), and how we deal with pollution in our water and soil (ADS11). Students are looking at how we coexist with animals in industrial ruins (ADS3), how we survive in damaged worlds (ADS2) – and even how we face the end of things (ADS4).

This work also reimagines how we live and build. You’ll see ideas for new types of housing (ADS1) and better ways to use materials (ADS6). Some students mix architecture with performance (ADS0) or sport (ADS8), while others explore the unexpected through 'follies' (ADS5) or the concept of the journey (ADS7). From the economics of sharing (ADS10) to the sensory atmosphere of our homes (ADS12).

“The problem with plastics is not limited to its vast carbon footprint, nor to the elongated temporality of its decomposition. The solution is not simply the elimination of single-use plastics, nor is it limited to the expansion of domestic, commercial, and industrial recycling. These earnest, honest, yet ultimately shortsighted visions of problems and solutions perpetuate the erasure of marginalised Black and Brown communities–turned–extractive zones in Louisiana and around the world. The real problem is the fallacious belief that toxic production is inevitable; the real solution is to imagine our way out of the plastics trap.

“How do we do it?”

‘Being Safe is Scary’ from our 2023 MA Architecture graduate, @lolatartakover is now on show @royalacademyarts as part of the current Architecture Window (@architecture_ra) exhibition!

The project explores the possibility of undoing top down authority on local communities by presenting three community self-build interventions: ‘The Ends Office’ (Image 1 and 6), ‘The Ends Library and Workshop’ (Image 10) and ‘The Debating Chamber’ (Image 8).

Lola’s architectural interventions allow space for activities that are often prohibited in London’s open spaces, but aims to make these spaces and local political process more democratically engaged and accessible. The project was undertaken under consistent dialogue with North Kensington residents.

‘Being Safe is Scary’ was Lola’s MA Architecture thesis as part of @rca_ads8.

⚡⚡Following a terrific Venice Biennale @labiennale Opening, we are proud to highlight the School of Architecture staff, student, and alumni community and the work they are exhibiting this year!

@rca.architecture ADS8 @rca_ads8 tutor, Meriem Chabani @meriem.chabani is an Algerian-French architect, urban planner and founding partner at New South @newsouth___. By questioning power dynamics and stakeholder relations, her projects offer evolutive intersections between the global South and the global North.

Her piece, ‘Mediterranean Queendoms’ is on view at the 18th International Architecture Exhibition ‘The Laboratory of the Future’, curated by Lesley Lokko, in the ‘Curator’s Special Projects: Guests from the Future’. The work is a tale of diasporic domestic space across the Mediterranean, paying tribute to female dominion and transgressing political borders. It's an exercise in architectural representation, borrowing from heraldic traditions and North African carpet making.

The capet is handmade by Meriem Chabani, John Edom, Mélissa Dyminat, Marine Gilouppe and Abdé Batchati.

🌟 Following a terrific Venice Biennale @labiennale Opening, we are proud to highlight the School of Architecture staff, student, and alumni community and the work they are exhibiting this year! ✨

For the Biennale Architettura 2023, architect, writer, and @rca_ads8 Tutor, Margarida Waco @margarida_waco presents 5.5706° S, 12.1976° E Sedimentary Myths, a 3-channel audiovisual installation nested within Food, Agriculture and Climate Change Special Projects. The exhibition chronicles a love letter to her native locale, Cabinda; a territory sited at the mouth of the Congo Basin, home to the peoples and ancestry of Bakongo and to wonders of the Maiombe rainforest, yet simultaneously holds the largest oil deposits and fossil fuel production in present-day Angola. While hydrocarbons are dug and stripped from ancient repositories to funnel flows of extractive wealth, the territory embodies multiple paradoxes that crystallize into spatial transformations, land disputes and dispossession, and the commodification of ecological bodies; the energy and flesh of extractive grammars.

Realised as a triptych assembling cartography, archival and new footage, weaponised by way of a poem fusing a plurality of voices, the exhibition traces the contours of the destructive cycles associated with oil mining. By weaving entangled hemispheres, cosmologies, and planetary networks—thriving, mutating, and sickening upon the soils and waters of territory, disrupting sacred webs of life—the exhibition gestures toward possible paths for becomings as Africans, as Cabindans.

⭐ We are proud to announce that 19 members of the RCA @royalcollegeofart community will take part in the International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia 2023 @labiennale, curated by Lesley Lokko.

The themes of this year's Biennale will spotlight Africa and the African Diaspora for the first time, exploring the theme 'The Laboratory of the Future’. This is a testament to the School of Architecture’s @rca_soa and its Programmes’ ongoing commitment to decolonisation, decarbonisation, and ecology, encouraging a plurality of understandings of architecture and engaging with practices across the global south.

✨We would like to celebrate the artists and the practitioners' success! ✨
