🌿 Celebrating an extraordinary volunteer! 💚

The Get Fresh team and Rockland Community Against Hunger Coalition members were delighted to attend today’s ceremony honoring our very own Lisa Licari with the County Executive’s Outstanding Environmental Volunteer Award!

Lisa has been part of our Get Fresh volunteer community since 2020. Her dedication, willing hands, and genuine warmth have made a meaningful and lasting impact on our community and the neighbors we serve.

And in a moment when the spotlight was on her, Lisa did what comes naturally: she used the opportunity to shine a light on the programs, people, and shared mission she cares so deeply about. That generosity of spirit is just one of the many reasons we’re so grateful to have her on our team.

Congratulations, Lisa! Your commitment to our community and the environment is truly inspiring, and this recognition is so well deserved. Thank you for all you do! 💚

1.6 million+ pounds of food every year. One powerful community. Countless neighbors reached.

Rockland Community Against Hunger is a coalition of Rockland County nonprofits, the Regional Food Bank, Rockland Conservation & Service Corps, Rockland County government, volunteers, retail partners, and community supporters working together, taking coordinated action to turn compassion into action.

Every year, we distribute more than 1.6 million pounds of food—completely free—to 40+ food pantries throughout our community. And we’re at work just about every day of the year.

This is what’s possible when nonprofits, government, businesses, volunteers, and neighbors come together with a shared commitment to fighting hunger.

Want to be part of the solution? Learn more, get involved, and find out how you can help make a difference at RocklandHunger.org.

October on a farm is busy. 🌱

Schools are in full swing, harvests are happening, and somehow we're planting for next year while still harvesting this one.

Since RCFN began, restoring our soil has been one of our biggest priorities. Areas once overtaken by mugwort and weeds are now thriving—and we didn't do it alone.

We talked to farmers, landscapers and community partners. We researched, experimented and kept learning.

🌱 Rockland County and the Town helped bring leaves to rebuild our soil.
🌱 Rockland Green provides compost that meets our organic-practice standards.
🌱 On Point Tree Company provides wood chips for our fields and blueberries.
🌱 Cornell Cooperative Extension helps us test our soil and measure our progress.

But while we've been rebuilding our soil, we've also been building community.

Through AmeriCorps, Clarkstown High School, ARC, BRIDGES, Jawonio, local schools, businesses and incredible volunteers, we're creating a farm where people of different ages, interests and abilities can learn, work and grow together.

Today we're planting strawberries for next season. 🍓 Next week, we'll plant blueberries with a volunteer group from Regeneron. 🫐

This is community farming. Sharing knowledge. Sharing resources. Learning together. And planting something today because you believe in what it can become tomorrow.

When there's a will—and a community—there's a way. 💚🌱

Our Polar CAP interns were part of the Cornell’s Sustainability Walk and Fair today at Congers Lake. We created Snowy Owl beaded hangers to remind people of community values we all share, from the Arctic to our homes here❤️. Congratulations to our partner in internships Kathy Galione for her well deserved award for all she does for Rockland County Youth!

🌎 Food Waste Prevention Week

From small, everyday actions to large-scale community initiatives, we all have a role to play in reducing food waste.

At TOUCH and Rockland Community Against Hunger, our Food Recovery and Get Fresh programs work year-round to rescue and redistribute over 1.7 million pounds of food each year, keeping perfectly good food out of landfills and putting it where it belongs: on the tables of our neighbors who need it.

💚 Whether you’re looking to make a difference at home, at work, or across your community, every action counts.

Every month is Hunger Action Month at the Rockland Community Against Hunger Coalition. ❤️

Spearheaded by our lead agency, TOUCH, this work is powered by an incredible network of partners, funders, retail donors, food pantries, volunteers, and community organizations—with support from the Regional Food Bank, Rockland County government, Rockland Conservation & Service Corps, and so many others.

Together, we recover and distribute more than 200,000 pounds of food every year directly to Rockland County food pantries, helping ensure our neighbors have access to nutritious food—including fresh produce and dairy—week after week.

And this morning is a perfect example of what collaboration can accomplish: in less than an hour, more than 16 food pantries received 12,000+ pounds of nutritious food to bring back to their communities.

That’s food rescued.
That’s food on tables.
That’s neighbors helping neighbors. ❤️

Hunger doesn’t take a month off—and neither do we.

This Hunger Action Month, what are YOU doing to help fight hunger?
Donate. Volunteer. Support your local food pantry. Share our message. Every action matters.

Behind every pound of food our Coalition distributes is a pair of hands—and a person who cares.

Led by TOUCH, our incredible Rockland Community Against Hunger Coalition has moved millions of pounds of food into the hands of our neighbors. Staff and volunteers sort it, pack it, load it, drive it, and distribute it—one box, one bag, and one family at a time.

This is what happens when a community comes together. Nonprofits, the Regional Food Bank, County government, retailers, volunteers, and supporters have built an innovative public-private partnership that turns abundance into nourishment and makes sure good food reaches people who need it.

This Hunger Action Month, we invite you to see what we’re accomplishing together—and find your place in this work. Every helping hand matters. ❤️

This Hunger Action Month, we’re recognizing both the challenge—and the incredible strength—of Rockland County’s emergency food system.

TOUCH’s new report, Food Insecurity in Rockland County: The Challenge and Needed Action, highlights the sobering reality that more than 54% of Rockland County households are food insecure or financially vulnerable. But it also shows what is possible when our community comes together: Rockland’s food pantries and meal programs are now serving an average of more than 80,000 people each month.

That success is powered by the Rockland Community Against Hunger Coalition and its network of nonprofit partners, with support from Rockland County government, the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, retail and wholesale food donors, and countless dedicated volunteers. Through our Food Recovery, Get Fresh, Nourish NY, and other food distribution programs, we help move nutritious food where it is needed most.

There is still much work to do—but together, we are turning surplus into sustenance and building a stronger, more resilient community.

Hunger Action Month is about the power of partnership!

Every month, Rockland Community Against Hunger brings together an incredible coalition of partners to help keep our neighbors fed. With food donated by the Regional Food Bank, space generously provided by the Town of Ramapo, incredible volunteers coordinated by Rockland Conservation & Service Corps, and coordination by TOUCH, we’re able to supply local food pantries with tons of nutritious food almost every week of the year.

This is what community looks like: organizations, volunteers, donors, and supporters working together to turn surplus food into sustenance and make sure our neighbors have access to the food they need.

Special thanks to Izzy, Esther and John from Meals On Wheels for attending and helping out today!

Sometimes, the world can feel like a dark place. Then we look at the faces of our incredible community of volunteers—and our hope is renewed. ❤️

Week after week, they show up with big hearts and strong arms to load tons of rescued food for local food pantries, sort and organize donations, and deliver nutritious food directly to neighbors living with chronic illness.

It’s hard not to be overwhelmed by the generosity, compassion, and commitment we see every single week.

Our incredible coalition and partners are the framework that makes this work possible. We are deeply grateful to every partner, supporter, donor, and volunteer who helps turn rescued food into a community resource.

And a very special THANK YOU to our extraordinary volunteers, coordinated by Rockland Conservation and Service Corps for showing up. And showing up, again and again.

We truly couldn’t do it without you. 💙❤️
