A day that went exceptionally well in all imaginable perspectives.
The 17th of October this year was emerging leaders day hosted at @amrefuniversity in collaboration with the @africahealthcollaborative @mastercardfoundation and @reachallianceto communities. It was a very insightful event to me as a BSc physiotherapy student and as an aspiring researcher.
My role in the team as an artist is what I can say I shined in more. Creating an holistic conceptual piece is one that takes understanding of the people you will be interacting with and I can say that this was the best experience. Creating a piece that does speak in bold and in observational silence.

The Emerging Leaders Day was a powerful start to the #AHCConvening2026, contributing to Africa’s health system’s through young people’s ideas, evidence and leadership.

The day brought together eager young researchers and emerging leaders who presented findings and exchanged ideas on youth mental health, HIV, primary healthcare implementation, community health, digital health and health information. Through peer learning, an intergenerational fireside chat and an interactive Giving Voice to Values workshop, they engaged with experienced researchers from leading universities across Africa and Canada.

Hosted by @amrefuniversity in Nairobi, Emerging Leaders' Day: Rising Together was co-created by the @reachallianceto and the Africa Health Collaborative, in partnership with the @mastercardfoundation.

A glimpse into a day of learning, connection and rising together.

Research is often imagined as a solitary pursuit, one person asking questions, gathering data, and searching for answers. But meaningful research is rarely built alone. Research is a form of collaboration.

Every question exists within a larger reality, and understanding that reality requires different perspectives. Researchers bring methodology and analysis; communities bring lived experience; institutions provide knowledge and resources; governments understand policy; NGOs understand implementation; and individuals affected by an issue can reveal dimensions that data alone cannot capture.

Working across sectors also challenges our own assumptions. The strongest research happens when we are willing to listen to people who see the same problem from a completely different angle. A conversation with a student, a policymaker, a professor, a community leader, or an organization can change the way we frame a question and sometimes, the answer we thought we were looking for.

Research therefore becomes more than the pursuit of information. It becomes a shared process of understanding: connecting disciplines, experiences, institutions, and people to transform fragmented knowledge into something that can create meaningful change.

Research is not simply about finding answers; it is about bringing people together to understand the questions that matter.

Across Africa, young people are driving vital health solutions. With the right opportunities, skills, and networks, they can play an even greater role in shaping health systems and influencing decisions.

To support this, the Africa Health Collaborative (AHC) and @reachallianceto, in partnership with the @mastercardfoundation, will host Emerging Leaders’ Day at @amrefuniversity in Nairobi ahead of our #AHCConvening2026.

This youth-focused workshop will bring together 30 young leaders from nine partner universities to build the confidence, skills, and networks to engage decisionmakers and move from participation to influence.

Behind every chatbot are many human workers making decisions on how those chatbots behave and evolve. Recent PhD graduate Noah Khan has been observing these workers to uncover the emotions and motivations impacting their designs.

As workers build AI entities that communicate with users, the @oisesje alum—together with OISE Professor Megan Boler—question the influence this has over our own emotions and outlooks.

A teacher's voice can shape the future of inclusive education.

As part of a @reachallianceto project, @UCL student researchers travelled across Asia to learn directly from educators about what helps create more inclusive classrooms.

These reels follow fieldwork in mainland China 🇨🇳, where conversations with teachers, schools and local partners revealed the realities behind education policy and practice.

One key message emerged: teachers don't just need training—they need practical support, opportunities to learn from peers, and recognition for the work they do every day.

🎥 Watch for a behind-the-scenes look at student-led research in action.
